Fake boss orders RM486,000 transfer in company scam
1 hour ago
A COMPANY lost RM486,000 after a scammer posing as an employer tricked a female employee into transferring company funds into a third-party bank account.
Johor Bahru North acting police chief Superintendent Azrol Anuar Nor said the 35-year-old employee lodged a police report yesterday after discovering she had fallen victim to the scam.
He said the woman received a text message at about 10am from a number used by a suspect impersonating her employer.
The suspect instructed her to transfer RM486,000 to an account for what was purportedly payment for a new contract.
“The victim realised she had been cheated when she was asked to make another transfer of the same amount for a different reason.
“She then contacted her employer through a WhatsApp call but received no response before discovering that her employer's phone number had been hacked,” he said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. - October 31, 2026
