British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan has been conferred the honorary rank of captain by the Pakistan Army, an accolade he shared via a video on his Instagram. Khan expressed his gratitude for the honorary title, emphasizing his deep affection for Pakistan and its people. He clarified that his role is ceremonial and not political.
Recently, Khan was involved in retrieving his boxing academy in Islamabad from the Frontier Corps, who had occupied the facility for nearly two years. After significant criticism, the Pakistan Sports Board intervened, leading to the vacation of the premises. Khan, from Dubai, thanked various government entities and officials for their support in this matter, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
Khan announced plans to reactivate the academy within a month, with upgrades including new equipment, enabling aspiring boxers to train and compete internationally. He also dismissed rumors about the academy’s status, confirming ongoing operations and imminent reopening. During a recent trip to Lahore, Khan met with Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir and discussed the academy, initially launched in 2015 with a state-of-the-art setup but closed temporarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
