Checking in: The Tokyo Edition, Ginza is where modern elegance meets Japanese hospitality

Welcome to Tokyo, Japan! After a long 7-hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, the last thing you want is an underwhelming hotel experience. With The Tokyo Edition, Ginza, you can rest assured that won’t be the case. Nestled in the luxurious Ginza district of Tokyo, this boutique hotel just opened its doors late last year, making it one of the newest luxury hotels in this exquisite neighbourhood. This marks the second expansion of the hotel chain, the first being in the Toranomon Hills district.

With an array of exquisite culinary restaurants and a blend of high-end and local boutiques, the Ginza district is a compelling reason to visit Tokyo. Given that The Tokyo Edition, Ginza is strategically located near Chuo-dori—Ginza’s main shopping street, it’s clear why this hotel deserves a spot on your radar. The 5-star hotel provides an exceptional blend of upscale amenities, fine dining, and attentive staff, creating a luxurious experience for every guest. We recently stayed at this fine establishment and had nothing but praise during our 2-night experience.

Let us take you on a grand—virtual—tour of the place, shall we?

OPULENCE AT EVERY TURN

As seen in photos, every corner of The Tokyo Edition, Ginza is truly stunning, perfectly embodying the concept of luxury living. The hotel is Kengo Kuma’s latest hotel project, in collaboration with The Edition’s Ian Schrager. In case you didn’t know, Kengo Kuma is a renowned Japanese architect celebrated for his innovative designs that harmonise with its surroundings, as seen in this hotel. Some of his notable works include the Suntory Museum of Art in Tokyo, the National Stadium for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum.

The boutique hotel is indeed a stunning reflection of modern luxury and Japanese aesthetics as the spaces are characterised by a seamless blend of natural materials which create a warm and inviting atmosphere. With a minimalist approach, the spaces feature plush furnishings and calming colour palettes, invoking a sense of tranquillity. Not forgetting the tall ceilings and large windows that offer breathtaking views of the city, whether it’s from your room, any of the dining areas, or the lobby.

INVITING ROOMS

Speaking of rooms, the same thoughtful vision is evident here. The Tokyo Edition, Ginza offers 86 guest rooms, including 10 opulent suites—a modest count that ensures tranquillity in the hotel, never overcrowded.

Each spacious and well-equipped room features refined decor, blending warm wood accents, soft textiles, and expansive windows that bathe the space in natural light. Unlike many hotels in Tokyo, where space constraints often result in smaller rooms, The Tokyo Edition offers generous layouts designed for relaxation. Guests can indulge in high-quality amenities, including plush bedding and luxurious bathrooms complete with rain showers, bathtubs, premium Le Labo toiletries and all the necessities such as in-room safe, mini bar, utensils, robes, ironing equipment, and more. These thoughtfully curated details ensure the rooms live up to their reputation for elegance and justify their premium price.

REFINED FACILITIES

The boutique hotel offers a very refined selection of luxury facilities that match its tranquil ambience. The fitness centre, though compact, is equipped with essentials like free weights, a spin bike, and a rowing machine, meeting basic workout needs. However, some guests might find the space limited. Despite its modest size, the equipment is well-maintained, and the intimate setting aligns with the hotel’s boutique ethos, creating a calm, focused environment for your workout session.

Even though there is no pool or spas on-site, there’s still plenty to do in the hotel. How about having a drink or two in any of its lounges? Or dine at its elegant restaurant that serves the classics with a Japanese twist. Continue reading to discover more about its delicacies.

EXQUISITE CULINARY DELICACIES

The dining experience at The Tokyo Edition, Ginza, reflects its commitment to modern luxury and social elegance. Its main highlight is The Roof, a rooftop bar surrounded by greenery with the most perfect view of the Tokyo Tower. Its offerings include a curated selection of biodynamic wines, champagnes, and cocktails. This natural wine bar is the ideal spot for solo and casual gatherings.

If the weather is not on your side during your stay, you might miss out on enjoying The Roof bar, as it’s located on an outdoor deck. Fortunately, the Lobby Bar offers a refined indoor alternative. Nestled within—well, the lobby, this sophisticated lounge doubles as a relaxed meeting spot. It features a well-curated selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including artisanal coffees sourced from local roasteries, along with freshly made pastries. Whether you’re seeking a morning pick-me-up or a place for an evening drink, the Lobby Bar provides a cosy retreat in the heart of the hotel.

For all-day dining, there is Sophie at Edition, which offers a modern brasserie experience with a creative blend of international cuisine and subtle Japanese influences. This intimate restaurant emphasises fresh, seasonal ingredients, sourced locally from small regional farms, ensuring each dish reflects both quality and sustainability. The extensive menu spans breakfast through dinner, with each meal thoughtfully designed to pair perfectly with the restaurant’s rotating cocktail selection and amicable selection of wines.

In summary, The Tokyo Edition, Ginza, exemplifies luxury through its distinctive blend of modern elegance and traditional Japanese hospitality. This seamless integration is evident in its thoughtfully designed facilities, spacious rooms, exquisite dining options, and attentive service. After a long day and night of exploring the vibrant city, returning to this hotel feels like a true sanctuary, making it one of the best places to unwind and recharge in Tokyo. The Tokyo Edition, Ginza provided us with an unforgettable stay and we look forward to revisiting it in our next Tokyo trip, hopefully happening sooner rather than later.
