Court gives police six months to complete probe into Teoh Beng Hock’s death

THE Kuala Lumpur High Court has directed the police to complete its investigations into the death of Teoh Beng Hock who died more than 15 years ago.
Judge Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh in his ruling today also instructed the police to complete the investigation within six months.
"There must be finality in this case and closure for everything.
"The (judicial review) applicants as parents of the deceased, like every citizen, deserve justice," said the judge.
He made the order in judicial review proceedings brought by Teoh’s family on Jan 4, 2022.
Teoh Leong Hwee, 76, and his wife, Teng Shuw Hoi, 71, as the applicants, named the Inspector-General of Police, criminal investigation department director, the police and the Malaysian government as the first to fourth respondents in their judicial review.
Teoh was found dead on July 16, 2009, on the fifth-floor service corridor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam after being questioned overnight at the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters on the 14th floor.
At the time of his death, Teoh was a political aide to Selangor executive councillor and DAP Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah. - November 21, 2024
