Will The BYD Atto 2 Arrive To Challenge Volvo And Zeekr?

BYD hasn’t confirmed if Malaysia will get the Atto 2 but since it is RHD ready, it should be soon
The BYD Atto 2 is likely making its way to Malaysia soon, promising to shake up the compact crossover market and rival established brands like Volvo and Zeekr. Expected to launch in Europe for under £30,000 (about RM164,589), the Atto 2 is equipped with a 45kWh battery that offers an impressive range of 345km to 420km on a single charge.
While the Atto 2 shares BYD’s signature design features, such as the sleek black strip across the nose, a rear LED light bar, and a rotating central screen, it presents a more modest design compared to its larger sibling, the Atto 3. Despite this, the Atto 2 is expected to bring a fresh option to consumers, with a right-hand drive version already prepared for the UK market.
Moreover, the Atto 2 is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, which is used across the brand’s entire electric vehicle (EV) lineup. The integration of the battery into the chassis enhances the vehicle’s rigidity and overall structural integrity, contributing to a solid driving experience. With its compact dimensions, the Atto 2 measures 4,310mm in length, 1,830mm in width, and 1,675mm in height.
This makes it 145mm shorter and 45mm narrower than the Atto 3, positioning it as a more compact alternative. In essence, think of the Atto 2 as a higher-riding version of the BYD Dolphin. Weighing 1,590kg, the Atto 2 is lighter than the Atto 3, which tips the scales at 1,750kg, making it a more agile choice for urban environments.
On top of that, inside, the Atto 2 offers a practical and conventional cabin with a 12.8-inch infotainment screen, an 8.8-inch instrument display, and a panoramic sunroof. The front seats are power-adjustable, heated, and upholstered in a leather-look material for a touch of luxury. It should also come with the in-car karaoke function but that remains to be seen.
Overall, the Atto 2 delivers a well-rounded package for those seeking a reliable, compact EV. As the EV market continues to grow, the BYD Atto 2 stands to offer an affordable and efficient alternative in Malaysia, potentially setting new standards for electric mobility in the region. Who knows, we may even see a very affordable EV alternative here with this car soon.
