One of the chief complaints among early foldables has been how thick the hardware is, and it’s been a major focus for manufacturers. With new images of the upcoming Oppo Find N5 and OnePlus Open 2, new records are being teased, and it reveals a device that’s truly jaw-droppingly thin.
It’s been rumored for some time now that the OnePlus Open 2, based on the Oppo Find N5, will be incredibly thin. Recently, Pete Lau said it would be the “world’s thinnest” book-style foldable, and now we’re getting a first look at the hardware.
New images shared on Weibo show off the Oppo Find N5, the device that will serve as the base for the OnePlus Open 2. The images show off a foldable that’s half the thickness of an iPhone, and just the thickness of four stacked credit cards or two stacked quarters. That’s when unfolded, at least. Still, that puts the device at likely 3.5-4mm, which undercuts the Honor Magic V3’s 4.35mm profile when opened up.
Essentially, the device is just barely thicker than the USB-C port. In the post (translated), Oppo’s Zhou Yibao says that the charging port is currently the limit for how thin the device can be.
The comparisons are truly wild to see.
Despite that thin profile,it’s said that the device will have a battery around 20% larger than the Oppo Find N3, as we’ve heard in previous leaks.
