The Malaysian government must prioritise investments in modern policing technologies to ensure national security remains robust and meets international standards, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Speaking at the Asia 2025 International Security Summit and Expo (AISSE25), he emphasised that the traditional approach of relying solely on physical law enforcement presence is no longer sufficient in the face of evolving threats.
“This should be done, and the government should invest in modern policing in our country,” he stated, urging for immediate action to strengthen community safety through advanced tools.
During his speech, Ahmad Zahid highlighted the importance of adopting cutting-edge solutions to combat organised crime, including terrorism. He urged global stakeholders to leverage technologies such as high-definition facial recognition and advanced CCTV systems, which he said could significantly enhance crime prevention by improving response times and accuracy.
“Balancing robust security measures with respect for civil liberties is essential to maintaining a just and equitable global security framework,” he noted.
Ahmad Zahid also stressed that these innovations are crucial to addressing increasingly complex threats and ensuring law enforcement agencies stay ahead of criminal activities.
He called for greater collaboration between government agencies, law enforcement, communities, and the private sector to improve coordination and tackle security challenges with speed and precision.
“The immediate action in driving prevention and enforcement should be expedited to ensure community safety,” he said.
The AISSE25 summit, held as a precursor to the ASEAN-GCC Summit scheduled for May 2025, underscores Malaysia’s commitment to fostering regional cooperation and strengthening global partnerships for shared prosperity.
Also present at the event were Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
