'Lucca’s World' Movie Cast And Characters Guide

Lucca’s World is a Netflix Mexico Original film based on the book “Los dos Hemisferios de Lucca” written by Barbara Anderson, a Mexican journalist. Her son, Lucas, was born with cerebral palsy; the movie, adapted from the book, chronicles her journey as a mother of a child that has a neurological illness and her quest for the treatment that would improve his condition. Barbara is surrounded by people who are willing to offer all sorts of help to raise Lucas as a normal kid. The list of characters mentioned below are in the film and they contribute heavily to make Barbara and Lucas’ lives easy.

Barbara

Barbara Mori is a popular Mexican actress who has acted in the Indian film Kites, starring Hrithik Roshan. Barbara is Barbara Anderson, a journalist who is constantly striving to find a treatment that would help her Lucas get slightly better. Lucas has cerebral palsy, and Barbara and her husband, Andres, spend every free moment taking care of him and their younger son, Bruno. Lucas takes up most of her time, as the doctor visits only keep increasing as her son is susceptible to many illnesses because of his weak immune system. Barbara is a light sleeper only because her son might need her in the middle of the night. She learns of a treatment in India that could possibly help her son, and Barbara is persistent about wanting to try it out just for the sake of Lucas. The odds are against her, yet that does not stop her from pursuing the doctors in India.

Andres

Juan Pablo Medina is Andres, Barbara’s ultra-supportive husband and Lucas’s father. He spends as much time taking care of his sons as Barbara does. The couple is a team that makes every decision for Lucas together. Andres also clings to the hope that Lucas will finally be able to walk and talk but the financial condition of the family is not supporting their plans. Andres is in and out of work many times, yet he prioritizes Lucas’ health over anything else. He is hesitant about taking the trip to India as it will cause a huge dent in their finances, but eventually he agrees to it. Andre and Barbara are of the hope the trip to India would prove to be beneficial for Lucas. Andres is the rock that Barbara builds her life around, and they will never betray each other, especially when it comes to their sons, Lucas and Bruno.

Dr. Ibarra

Hernán Mendoza portrays the role of Dr. Ibarra, the neurologist who has been Lucas’ physician right from his birth. Dr. Ibarra knows Lucas’ case inside and out, and sadly, he has to give up on his patient because neither his hospital nor any other in Mexico had any more treatment that could help the boy. Dr. Ibarra was not in favor of Barbara traveling to India for the treatment she’d heard of since it is risky for Lucas. Ibarra, however, knew Barbara was stubborn and agreed to aid her ailing son, providing details of Lucas to help with the treatment in India. Ibarra is yet another good Samaritan who helps Barbara as she is striving to make Lucas’ life better.

Dr. Jaramillo

Ari Brickman is Dr. Jaramillo, who is the first point of contact for Barbara in India for Lucas’ treatment. Dr. Jaramillo is propagating an experimental treatment, and on learning of him, Barbara is quick to contact him, though initially he is not keen on taking in Lucas. His business partner, Dr. Kumar, is initially also not keen, but Barbara’s persistence makes him and Dr. Kumar consider Lucas for the treatment using the medical device named the Cytotron. Dr. Jarmillo is a weird man who keeps a lot of secrets and shuts down Barbara from time to time whenever she questions about the availability of the treatment in Mexico and the USA.

Dr. Kumar

Danish Hussain, a niche Indian actor, plays Dr. Kumar, the inventor of the machine Cytotron. This machine is highly recommended to Barbara and her family for Lucas’ treatment and she goes out of her way to make sure she and her family are asked to visit India to commence treatment for his Cerebral Palsy. Dr. Kumar comes across as a decent man who is happy with the improvement Lucas slowly makes.

Nayelli

Paloma Alvamar is Nayelli, the nanny hired by Andres and Barbara to help them take care of Lucas and Bruno. She is a good nanny who goes out of her way to help with Lucas who can barely walk because of his ailment. Nayelli is a part of the family and travels with Barbara and Andres, helping them with the kids and other daily chores.
