Asia Pacific law group reiterates concern about implementation of death penalty in Singapore

LAWASIA notes with concern that Pannir Selvam Pranthaman is scheduled to be executed in Singapore on 20 February.

Pannir was convicted in 2017 of drug trafficking and a mandatory death penalty was imposed.

In 2018 LAWASIA called for a moratorium on the implementation of the death penalty in the Asia Pacific region. Specifically, the LAWASIA council:

review their respective policies on capital punishment and

LAWASIA reiterates its 2018 resolution.

Consistent with the 2018 resolution, LAWASIA supports the statement issued by the Commonwealth Lawyers Association on 18 February, in which it:

Shyam Divan is president of the Law Association for Asia and the Pacific (LAWASIA).
