KUCHING, Feb 21: A 21-year-old local woman wants her ex-boyfriend from China to stop harassing her and her family, after he bombarded her home with unpaid ride-hailing and food delivery orders—sometimes up to 30 times a day.
The woman, who requested anonymity, said her long-distance relationship with the 38-year-old man from Lanzhou, Gansu Province, began some time in 2022 after they met on WeChat, China’s messaging and social media app.
Throughout their relationship, she had visited him in Guangzhou and Zhuhai in June and September 2024, but after returning from her last trip in October, she decided to end the relationship due to irreconcilable differences.
She cited his possessiveness, manipulative and controlling behaviour, bad temper, her parents’ disapproval, and communication difficulties as reasons for the breakup.
“He refused to accept the breakup, and I eventually stopped communicating with him as I was annoyed by his persistence. He even demanded that I fly to China to meet him in person,” she told a press conference today.
The harassment escalated between Feb 9 and Feb 19, when the man began placing unpaid orders for ride-hailing and food deliveries to her home daily.
“The worst was over 30 orders in a single day, continuing until midnight. Drivers and delivery riders kept honking and taking photos of my house, causing a public nuisance and disturbing my neighbours,” she said.
She rejected all the orders, but some deliverers, frustrated by the situation, became aggressive and threw food over her gate.
To prevent further incidents, she put up notices advising delivery workers not to accept orders linked to her home address. At one point, she and her family even stayed away from home for two days.
Fearing for her safety, the woman sought help from Sarawak United Peoples’ Party Public Complaints Bureau (SUPP PCB) chief Milton Foo.
She also revealed that her ex-boyfriend had sent her threatening messages, vowing to make her and her family “suffer for as long as he lives.” In one message, he claimed to have connections with certain individuals whom he could use to cause harm, warning her to “just wait and see.”
Four police reports have been lodged with the first on Feb 12, 2025 requesting delivery companies to stop taking orders issued to her home address. The second and third reports on Feb 16 and 18, 2025 were complaints against delivery riders who became rude and threw food into her compound.
The fourth report on Feb 19, 2025 was against the ex-boyfriend for threatening to pay people to harass and intimidate her.
Foo condemned the man’s actions, stating that his harassment not only disrupts the woman’s life but also causes financial losses to businesses and delivery services.
“I personally witnessed how rude he was when speaking to the girl’s father. His behaviour is unacceptable and is creating a public disturbance. The safety of the girl and her family is at risk,” he said.
He urged the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to work with Chinese authorities to track down and take action against the man, as his full details are available.
“We hope that by exposing his actions, he will stop this immature and harmful behaviour,” Foo added. — DayakDaily
