Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation has rejected allegations that it refused to lend an automated external defibrillator to help rescue a 62-year-old man who died after collapsing outside a station.
Police said officers were alerted at 3.07pm last Friday to an incident involving a man passing out outside the MTR Tsuen Wan West Station.
The 62-year-old, who was holding a Ukraine passport, was sent to the Yan Chai Hospital in Tsuen Wan while he was unconscious, and was later certified dead, according to police.
The force said the cause of death would be determined after an autopsy.
The incident caught public attention after an off-duty medical staff member shared on Thursday via social media about rescuing the man who fainted at a taxi stop outside the MTR station.
According to the post, the medical staff member asked a passer-by for help to borrow an automated external defibrillator, but was told the request was turned down by an MTR employee as the collapsed man was not inside the station.
