We share our thoughts on the latest vivo V50, a smartphone that takes mobile portrait photography and performance to the next level.
Major tech company vivo recently announced the latest addition to its growing smartphone lineup, the V50. Made to break boundaries in the realm of mobile photography, this device holds a world of surprises within its functions that will truly up your photography game from capturing scenes to editing portraits. It arrives in three vibrant new hues—Ancora Red, Mist Purple, and Satin Black—made to suit any and every style. With a bunch of new features to explore, there is much to be excited about when it comes to the vivo V50. In the last week or so that I’ve spent on the phone, I’ve managed to test out all of its main functions and capabilities. Safe to say, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at all that it can do. Here are my honest thoughts on the vivo V50 and an introduction to what you can expect from the phone.
WHAT’S IN THE VIVO V50 BOX?The box arrives simple and fuss-free. Besides the obvious vivo V50 itself, the box also included a transparent soft case, a charging kit, a SIM card pin, and warranty information.
DESIGN & BUILDUpon first glance, the vivo V50 is a sight to behold. I’ve been using the Ancora Red model, which is the perfect blend of bold and sleek. Inspired by red sandstone, the colour—along with the matte finish—adds a little bit of warmth and elegance to my daily routine. The curved edges of the phone also make it easy to hold onto. Being the slimmest vivo phone with a 6,000mAh Bluevolt battery, the V50 is also a breeze to carry around all day long, as it doesn’t add much weight or bulk to my bags no matter how small they may be.
DISPLAY & SCREENThe 6.77-inch Equal-depth Quad Curved Screen offers a stunning infinity viewing experience. With an almost invisible bezel, a 41° golden curvature, and a 120Hz refresh rate, the visuals on the vivo V50 appear as though they are hovering off the screen. The ultra-clear sunlight display that can reach up to 4,500 nits in local peak brightness also ensures that I don’t have any difficulty making out what’s on my screen even when outdoors on the sunniest of days.
Impressively, the OLED screen is able to display up to 1.07 billion colours, so everything appears extra crisp and clear. I personally have been binging nature documentaries on the phone as the bright and vibrant colours really shine through this display.
CAMERA & PHOTOGRAPHYWithout a doubt, the main star of the vivo V50 is its camera system. Built to empower you with pro-level portrait photography right from your phone, the ZEISS co-engineered camera system brings a wealth of photographic capabilities to your fingertips. There are three ZEISS lenses within said system: a 50MP ZEISS main camera, a 50MP ZEISS Ultra-Wide Angle camera, and a 50MP ZEISS Group Selfie front-facing camera.
Each one comes with its distinct Zeiss-made strengths, all geared towards enhancing your mobile photography experience. Think pro-grade stabilisation, high-pixel wide-angle photography, Zeiss-style bokeh, portrait mode, and film camera mode. Not to mention, it can capture 4K quality videos on all cameras too.
Within the camera app itself is also a range of modes and functions that can help bring out the best in your photos such as Dual View and Snapshot for sport photography. My personal favourite of the lot is Food Portrait Mode. It adds a warmth to my food pictures that really brings out the details and elements of each dish. Coupled with the Aura Light’s soft illumination and adjustable brightness, I am able to get the shot that I want within seconds of opening the camera app. Stay tuned for our story on mobile photography tips using the vivo V50!
PERFORMANCE & STRENGTHThe vivo V50 is equipped with a 6,000 mAh BlueVolt battery. It supports 90W FlashCharge, which allows up to six hours of phone calls or three hours of video streaming with a quick 10-minute charge. My job requires a tonne of phone use whether for social media purposes or capturing footage and the vivo V50 has certainly hit the mark with its battery life. It lasted entire days without needing a charge, even when I required some heavy lifting from the phone. I also operate with peace of mind knowing that the battery was engineered to optimise its own health, achieved through the low lithium drainage electrolyte and laser etching technology.
The vivo v50 is available for pre-orders until 21 March. Visit the official vivo website to find out more.
