Mercy Malaysia, Malaysian Red Crescent offer vital support to victims of gas pipeline blaze

MERCY Malaysia and the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) are providing critical aid to those affected by the devastating gas pipeline fire that occurred in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, on Monday, which left over 100 individuals injured and caused significant displacement among local residents.

In a recent update on Facebook, Mercy Malaysia revealed that it is working closely with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) to offer essential mental health support to those traumatised by the incident.

The organisation is also organising child-friendly activities to help the younger victims process their emotions.

“We extend our deepest empathy and solidarity to those affected by this disaster,” said Mercy Malaysia in its statement.

In addition to their mental health response, Mercy Malaysia expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Public Health Department and local rescue teams, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of the affected population.

To further support those impacted by the disaster, Mercy Malaysia has launched a fundraising campaign to bolster its relief operations. The public is encouraged to make donations to the CIMB account number 8000792908, using the reference ‘MERCY Malaysia - Pipeline.’

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Red Crescent has mobilised its Selangor Chapter to assist the local community.

According to a post on its Facebook page, dedicated volunteers from both the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chapters are overseeing a temporary relief centre at Dewan Serbaguna Masjid Putra Heights, in partnership with the SMART Selangor Operation Centre (SSOC) and JKM.

MRC has also deployed emergency ambulances to the area, providing first aid and medical attention to those affected by the disaster.

“Our hearts go out to all those impacted, and we will remain on the ground for as long as needed to ensure the community’s safety and well-being,” stated the organisation. – April 2, 2025
