Google rolling out ‘Use mobile data’ for Quick Share on Android

After first teasing in February, Google is beginning to widely roll out Quick Share’s “Use mobile data” option on Android.

Google first announced how “you can continue your Quick Share transfers over Wi-Fi or mobile data even if the sender or receiver loses direct connection” in the February 2025 system release notes. Those on the beta version of Play services started seeing it then. As always, it takes some time for features announced there to become widely available.

With the stable version of Google Play services 25.18, we’re now seeing a “Use mobile data: Continue sharing if your device can’t connect over Wi-Fi. Data charges may apply” on/off toggle underneath Account, Device name, and Who can share with you settings. It was enabled by default on our end.

We’re seeing it on several devices running Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1, but it’s also appearing on Android 15. It’s not yet widely rolled out.

As a reminder, Google’s Quick Share app will stop working on Samsung PCs starting next week.
