KUCHING, June 14: The Second Sungai Limbang Bridge is expected to be completed within six months and is scheduled to be operational by April next year.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the project’s progress is encouraging based on the briefing he received.

“If completed by December, it can be used by the following April,” he said in a press conference after a working visit to the project site today.

The bridge that spans the Limbang River will connect Limbang with the Brunei border, thereby enhancing trade, tourism, and economic activities across the region.

Additionally, the journey from Bandar Seri Begawan to Limbang will take only 30 minutes once the bridge is completed.

Abang Johari also stated that the State government is developing a comprehensive plan to transform Limbang into a major tourism and economic hub in northern Sarawak.

“Limbang has the longest riverfront in Sarawak, and we want to turn it into a key tourist attraction. The surrounding areas will also be developed to support economic growth,” he said.

He also announced plans to build a three-star hotel and a government office near the Limbang Museum, as well as to connect the coastal route to Lawas via a dual-carriageway highway.

“This is the seamless mobility concept we aim to achieve between Lawas and Limbang, so that residents and tourists alike can enjoy modern and comfortable infrastructure,” he added.

The Premier also visited the Limbang Museum and proposed improvements, including the addition of visual elements that reflect the town’s historical narrative and development.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi; Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki; federal Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Hasbi Habibollah; Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities, and Regional Development Sarawak Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail; and Batu Danau assemblyman Dato Paulus Palu Gumbang were also present. — DayakDaily
