Senior Citizen Killed In Collision After Attempted U-Turn

A tragic road accident claimed the life of a senior citizen earlier today when the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a Proton X70 SUV on Jalan Jerteh–Kuala Besut, near Kampung Dengir. The incident occurred around 9:20 a.m. and involved 66-year-old Zakaria Husain, a resident of Kampung Bukit Cina. Zakaria was riding a Honda EX5 motorcycle when the collision took place. According to the authorities, he suffered severe injuries to his head and multiple parts of his body, which ultimately led to his death at the scene.

Moreover, Besut District Police Chief, Superintendent Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu, confirmed that the accident happened as the victim attempted a sudden U-turn from the shoulder of the road. The Proton X70, which was traveling in the same direction towards Kampung Raja, was unable to stop in time and collided with the motorcycle.

“The victim was riding along the shoulder of the road when he made an abrupt U-turn. The driver of the Proton X70 had no opportunity to brake or swerve to avoid the collision, resulting in a direct impact that caused the motorcyclist to be thrown onto the road,” Superintendent Azamuddin said when contacted by Kosmo!.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the accident. Zakaria was immediately transported to the Forensic Unit of Besut Hospital for further examination and post-mortem procedures.

On top of that, the police have launched an investigation into the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. Authorities are also expected to take statements from witnesses and the SUV driver to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

This unfortunate incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by motorcyclists, especially when performing risky maneuvers such as sudden U-turns on busy roads. Police have urged road users to always exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic laws to prevent similar tragedies.
