Inside Our Weekend of Paradise at The St. Regis Langkawi

We spent a weekend at The St. Regis Langkawi so you’ll know exactly where to check in for your next island getaway.
Langkawi has long been a beloved paradise for those seeking beachside serenity, but there’s more to this island than just its idyllic shores. Enter The St. Regis Langkawi: a crown jewel in Marriott Bonvoy’s global portfolio of luxury stays, where storied heritage meets Malaysian hospitality within an oasis of understated elegance.
Framed by tropical foliage and the Andaman Sea, the resort rests on a secluded coastal stretch just minutes from Kuah town—yet it feels worlds away. Its architecture strikes a balance between grandeur and intimacy, where soaring ceilings, curated art, and island breezes come together to shape a tranquil escape. While the brand’s legacy is steeped in Manhattan sophistication, this property embraces Langkawi’s slower rhythms through thoughtful design and time-honoured rituals.
We checked in for a weekend stay at the resort to experience its signature butler service, holistic spa treatments, and world-class dining. Ahead, we break down everything you can see, do, and savour at this seaside haven.
INSIDE THE SUITESHome to 85 suites and four private overwater villas, The St. Regis Langkawi takes its guest experience seriously. Our guest room welcomed us into a sanctuary cocooned in lush greenery with sweeping views of the rainforest. In the mornings, the distant birdsong replaced the usual hum of daily life.
Inside, the suite blends refined luxury with home-like comfort: soft cream tones, rich wood detailing, plush bedding, and natural light that streamed through tall windows. Thoughtful touches made all the difference—from a freestanding bathtub and spacious wardrobes to intuitive tech like a smart TV and in-room sound system. The highlight? A private balcony that offered a quiet hideaway to unwind with a cup of tea (or two) after a day spent basking in the sun.
Of course, no stay at The St. Regis Langkawi is complete without its hallmark butler service. We were greeted in the lobby and personally assisted through the check-in process, a smooth start that echoed the attentive care to come. Whether it was unpacking luggage, pressing garments, or delivering a handcrafted iced coffee to the room, every detail was handled with efficiency and genuine warmth.
ON THE MENUWith six dining venues on site, The St. Regis Langkawi offers a culinary experience that caters to every appetite and occasion. Whether you’re in the mood for an outdoor lunch, a fine dining affair, or a quick bite, the resort’s food and beverage offerings tick all the boxes when it comes to taste and ambience.
L’ORANGERIETucked within the resort’s main building, L’Orangerie is where our mornings began with a nourishing meal and postcard-worthy views of the sea. This all-day dining venue opens daily from 6.30am, offering a generous breakfast spread that caters to every kind of traveller. Expect a delectable mix of continental favourites and local classics, from flaky pastries and fresh fruit to steaming bowls of laksa and made-to-order eggs.
During our stay, we were treated to a live nasi lemak station, where we could customise our plates with an array of condiments including house-made sambal, crispy anchovies, beef rendang, and more.
The restaurant offers both indoor seating in the main dining hall and a relaxed nook at the adjoining Gourmand Deli. By afternoon and evening, the venue transitions into a more elevated dining scene, serving lunch and dinner with globally inspired flair. The menu presents a fusion of modern French cuisine and vibrant Asian flavours, with rotating specials that highlight seasonal ingredients.
PANTAI GRILLThis rustic beachfront restaurant is the perfect spot for casual lunches and sunset dinners. Open daily from 11am, it boasts a menu that highlights premium seafood and fine cuts of meat, all prepared over a traditional wood-fire grill.
We dined here on our first night, toes in the sand and waves providing a rhythmic backdrop. The seafood platter was a standout, featuring charred lobster, grilled scallops, and squid cooked to perfection. We also tried the snapper fish tacos, which added a refreshing, zesty touch to the meal. For dessert, the upside-down pineapple cake quickly became a favourite around the table —sweet, caramelised, and decadent without being heavy to close out the feast.
KAYUPUTIPoised above the water with white-washed shutters, Kayuputi is the resort’s fine dining destination. Its open kitchen, dramatic interiors, and panoramic ocean backdrop set the tone for a truly memorable meal. The menu showcases Asian-inspired haute cuisine, where masterful techniques meet bold regional flavours. On most evenings, guests can opt for the à la carte menu or a multi-course tasting, paired with selections from the restaurant’s impressive wine cellar.
Our evening coincided with the Gastronomy Series 2025, where a Six Hands Dinner brought together acclaimed chefs from Sushi Azabu, The Oriental Park KLCC, and Kayuputi. Across ten meticulously crafted courses, we delved into a showcase of culinary artistry ranging from intricately plated sushi to imaginative dishes layered with texture, flavour, and finesse.
FOR WELLNESS AND LEISUREOur 90-minute session at the Iridium Spa was a restorative experience that easily ranked among the best we’ve had. It began with a soothing foot bath before easing into treatments such as the Heritage Malaya and Urut Melayu, both rooted in traditional healing practices. The spa menu offers everything from full-body massages to facials, all performed by skilled therapists in private suites. Guests can choose between solo or couples’ rooms, making it just as ideal for a self-care day as it is for a rejuvenating date.
For a sun-soaked activity, the resort’s infinity pool is hard to beat. With shaded daybeds and bar service on demand, it’s an inviting spot to linger with a cocktail in hand. We also took time to explore the grounds on foot, strolling through blooming gardens and spotting hornbills along the path to the beach.
DON’T MISS: THE SIGNATURE RITUALSOne of our favourite discoveries during our stay was the Lang Mary Workshop. Held at The Decanter, the resort’s wine bar, we tried our hand at mixing its reinterpretation of the classic Bloody Mary. Instead of the usual bold spices, the Lang Mary uses local ingredients like pandan, tamarind, and lemongrass. The result? A cocktail that’s bright, citrusy, aromatic, and distinctly Langkawi.
At 6.30pm each evening, we joined fellow guests in the lobby for the Champagne Sabering Ritual, a storied tradition dating back to Napoleonic times. Watching the butler ceremoniously slice open a bottle of champagne with a saber was as theatrical as it was celebratory, marking a sparkling toast to the sunset and a fitting prelude to the night ahead.
THE VERDICTFew places make it this effortless to switch off from the everyday, but The St. Regis Langkawi makes a compelling case. With impeccable service, picturesque surroundings, and exceptional cuisine, it’s no wonder the resort holds its five-star reputation. Whether you’re commemorating a special occasion or simply craving a solo retreat, this island haven steps up to the plate and is well worth checking into.
