Madani Tuition to launch in Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU, July 12 — The Madani Tuition programme is to be launched in Terengganu with an allocation of RM5.27 million, set to benefit 9,408 students with the help of 614 schoolteachers.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the state was chosen due to Terengganu students’ excellent achievements in public exams.

“I appreciate and see Terengganu’s excellent results and I am also proud as a father and grandfather. I would like to announce (Madani Tuition) for Terengganu first to help school students.

“This assistance (is carried out) with the cooperation of schoolteachers… This is the first (iteration of the) programme in Malaysia,” he said at the closing ceremony of the Terengganu People’s Madani event at Pasar Kedai Payang here today.

The ceremony was also attended by Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

Anwar said the implementation of Madani Tuition under the poverty eradication initiative in Terengganu is in addition to the RM100 aid for students and teachers to buy books.

He added that the programme will be expanded to Kelantan soon.

Anwar also announced that the government had approved the construction of a new matriculation college in Marang and the acquisition of land for the Kuala Terengganu Polytechnic campus.

At the same ceremony, 10 students who excelled in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia 2024 received Madani devices.

Meanwhile, Anwar said RM30 million had been allocated to Terengganu through the SejaTi Madani programme, which is an initiative of the Unity Government to boost community-based economies.

“Each village is given funds and the village chooses the (economic activities) it wants to do, and meets to decide what is necessary (for that activity).

“I went to a village in Parit Buntar, Perak, I saw them buying drones… They bought two drones and then rented them out to spray fertiliser. Now every month their net profit is RM30,000… If we empower the villagers and manage it well, sometimes the project is better than other projects,” he said.

SejaTi Madani focuses on five main sectors — agriculture and food, tailoring and handicraft, herbs and health, tourism and hospitality, and green activities and recycling.
