SHAH ALAM – Two brothers who attempted to flee over a distance of 90 kilometres were finally apprehended after being pursued by six police patrol vehicles (MPVs) at the Section 7 Commercial Centre here early Tuesday morning.
Shah Alam District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident went viral on social media through a 17-second video showing the moment of their arrest.
“The incident occurred at around 1.30am when MPV officers on patrol spotted a blue Proton Wira behaving suspiciously.
“The officers ordered the vehicle to stop using sirens and a loudspeaker, but the driver sped off in an attempt to evade inspection,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Iqbal added that the chase lasted for nearly an hour before the suspects were intercepted in front of the main gate of the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) in Section 9.
“We arrested two men aged 18 and 24. A further inspection of the vehicle revealed a bottle of green liquid, believed to be ketum juice, hidden under the front passenger seat.
“Checks revealed that the 24-year-old suspect has five prior criminal records related to drug offences, while his younger brother has no prior record,” he added.
The case is now being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants from performing their duties and Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
“A remand application for both suspects will be made at the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court this morning,” he said.
Members of the public with further information regarding the case are urged to contact Investigating Officer Inspector S. Nawinthan at 016-2052314.
