M'sian Policeman Run Over By Thieves Who Fled While Stealing Safe, Dies At The Scene | WeirdKaya

A policeman who was responding to a report of attempted theft was tragically killed after he got run over by one of the thieves with a stolen vehicle.

The slain officer was 35-year-old Corporal Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan from the Kedah Criminal Investigation Department (CID), reported NST.

Kedah police chief Commissioner Datuk Adzli Abu Shah told reporters that police received a tip-off regarding suspicious activity at a house at Taman Golf in Alor Setar at 3.30pm yesterday (Aug 7).

 A total of five CID policemen were then dispatched to the location, who arrived at the scene in two vehicles and caught the suspects trying to steal a metal safe.

“This is a tragic loss for the police force, especially for us in Kedah,” he added.

Suspects arrested within 1 hour

Adzli said one of the suspects was arrested on-site, while the other three fled in the Lexus. Along the way, they reportedly stole another car but were eventually nabbed in Kepala Batas, Jitra, within an hour.

He added the suspects, aged between 24 and 26, hold a lengthy criminal record. One of them had 77 prior offences, mostly involving house break-ins and car theft, while another had 30.

As for the other two suspects, they have six and two past offences, respectively.

The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 457 for housebreaking.

‘He was a good man’

Mohd Hafizul, who hails from Setiu, Terengganu, leaves behind his wife and three children aged 4, 9, and 11.

His death has left the family devastated, with his wife mourning over the loss of her husband whom she described as “a good man.”

“Before the tragedy, he went to pick up our child from school. He always did that, even when he was busy with work. His children adored him. They still don’t quite understand what’s happened,” she said as quoted by Harian Metro.

Mohd Hafizul, who served in the police force for 15 years, will be laid to rest at his hometown today.
