MIRI (Aug 10): The BEM Immanuel Permyjaya Church charity sale, held yesterday at the community basketball court in Bandar Baru Permyjaya, was a lively affair that drew strong support from church members and local residents.
Organised to raise funds for the church’s development, the charity sale also earned praise from state Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who officiated the event as guest of honour.
“This is truly a noble effort. A good and comfortable church is not only a place of worship, but also serves as a centre for community activities, teaching, and service to society,” he said in his speech.
Lee commended the commitment of the organising committee, including the pastor, chairman, ministry leaders, and the entire congregation for their collective efforts in making the event a success.
“The spirit of unity and cooperation shown here reflects our strong sense of family and brotherhood. Such values are crucial in a state as diverse as ours, where racial, ethnic, and religious harmony must always be nurtured,” he added.
Lee also urged followers of all faiths to continue championing peace and unity within their communities, emphasising that shared understanding and harmony are key pillars of a strong and inclusive society.
He expressed confidence that every contribution, whether large or small, would go a long way toward furthering the development of the church for the benefit of both present and future generations.
Also present at the event were BEM District Pastor Loter Sakai and church chairman David Juman.
As part of his support, Lee announced a RM5,000 grant for the church through his Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation.
