Sarawak Energy Isthmus Run 2025 raises RM360,000 for 12 charities

KUCHING, Aug 10: Approximately 6,000 runners from Malaysia and 14 countries participated in the Sarawak Energy Isthmus Run today, raising RM360,000 for 12 charities Statewide.

The 12 beneficiaries are Kuching Autistic Association, Sarawak Society for the Blind, Sarawak Society for the Deaf, Sarawak Women for Women Society, Sibu Autistic Association, Association for Children with Special Needs Sibu, Sibu Community Services Association, Miri Methodist Children’s Home, Miri Home for the Aged, PERYATIM Bintulu, Yayasan Dee Hati, and the Sibu Methodist Care Centre.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, who officiated the run, praised Sarawak Energy for going beyond its role as the State’s primary electricity provider and Malaysia’s largest renewable energy developer, by uplifting communities and fostering well-being.

“Today’s run is more than just a sporting event. Whether you took on the 5km, 10km, 21km half-marathon, or the full 42km marathon, your participation reflects a shared commitment to a healthier, more active and more united Sarawak,” Julaihi said.

He added that events such as Isthmus Run complement the State’s ongoing efforts to modernise infrastructure and expand digital connectivity by encouraging a lifestyle that is active, engaged, and future-ready.

This year’s run drew participants from 14 countries, including Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand.

In the Male Open Full Marathon, Amos Kipkemoi Chesang clinched first place with a time of 2:22:10, followed closely by Samuel Komon Yeko (2:23:03) and Joseph Mwangi Ngare (2:23:30).

For the Female Open Full Marathon, Caroline Cherono claimed victory in 2:43:16, ahead of Susan Jemutai Kosegei (2:57:49) and Purity Jelimo Serem (2:57:50). — DayakDaily
