Yayasan Sarawak international school in Sibu set to begin full operations this September

SIBU (Aug 30): Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School (YSISS) Sibu is set to begin full operations this September, pending final approval from the State Education Department, said Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

According to Sagah, the school building is fully completed and has already obtained all necessary permits, including approvals from local councils and the Fire and Rescue Department.

“Now, we are just waiting for approval from the Education Department to allow the school to operate fully. I believe this will not be an issue as we have a good relationship with them,” he said during an official visit to YSISS Sibu today.

Although the official campus in Sibu has just been completed, classes had already started in March with students from the central zone of Sarawak temporarily placed at YSISS in Kuching.

“If everything goes smoothly, the students will move to this campus in September. Lessons have already started with appointed teachers and the school principal,” Sagah said.

YSISS Sibu is the third international school operated under Yayasan Sarawak, following the opening of campuses in Kuching and Bintulu.

The school accommodates 25 students per class across nine classrooms, and is equipped with modern facilities including science laboratories.

Its curriculum follows the IGCSE Cambridge framework, with most subjects taught in English, except for Bahasa Melayu and History, which are conducted in Malay to meet the national education system’s requirements.

“All students here are from the central zone of Sarawak, and some currently in Kuching were also selected from this same zone. We hope more students will benefit from this international school,” he said.

During the visit, Sagah also witnessed the handover of a symbolic key replica from the project implementation team of YSISS Sibu to Yayasan Sarawak, marking the completion of the school’s construction.

Also present was his deputy, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee.
