BMW has officially unveiled the all-new iX3, its first EV under the new Neue Klasse lineup, ahead of IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich. It features an all new design, a new 800V-based sixth-generation (Gen6) BMW eDrive platform, impressive long range and 400kW peak DC Charging.

This EV replaces the current BMW iX3 (G08) which is still based on an ICE platform.

According to BMW, this second generation BMW iX3 marks a leap forward in development over its predecessor. It added that the advances made in terms of design and technology create the impression that a complete vehicle generation has been skipped.

For the BMW Group, the launch of the new BMW iX3 marks a new milestone in the transformational process when it comes to electrification, digitalisation and circularity. As the first model of the Neue Klasse, it is designed to offer customers the latest design and technology innovations which will shape the brand’s entire range moving forwards.

It added that the technologies of the Neue Klasse will be incorporated in a total of 40 new models and model updates from now until 2027.

The new iX3 introduces BMW’s new design language that emphasises on clean, reduced and character-rich design. Unlike the huge kidney grills on some of the recent BMWs, the new iX3 gets slimmer kidneys with horizontal light signature. The slim kidney design is a interesting throwback to the Neue Klasse of the 60s which started with the BMW 1500.

The new SUV also gets flush door handles which extends out when the passenger or driver approaches the vehicle. Meanwhile, the rear gets a bold new look with thick horizontal lights with vertical pattern elements.

BMW iX3 50 xDrive Specs and Performance

The first variant for BMW iX3 2026 is the 50 xDrive. Yes, BMW has updated naming convention as we’ve seen on the latest BMW X3 (e.g. BMW X3 30 xDrive and BMW X3 M50).

The BMW iX3 50 xDrive is an AWD model with dual motors that pushes 345kW (463hp) and 645Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds, up to a electronically limited top speed of 210km/h.

In terms of suspension, it uses double-joint spring strut axle for the front and five-link axle for the rear, and it rides on 255/45 R20 tyres.

Comparing with its predecessor, the new iX3 is longer and slightly wider, but shorter for a more sportier stance. It measures 4,892mm long, 1,895mm wide and 1,635mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,897mm.

According to the Bavarian brand, they have used AI to optimise symbiotic human-vehicle interaction by using electronics and software architecture as a basis. It added that the system will be able to detect what the driver wants to do more precisely and carry it out proactively.

Besides having a symbiotic steering, the iX3 is claimed to be the first model in the world to feature symbiotic brakes. BMW explains that the automatic cruise control will not deactivated with just a light press of the brake pedal but it is only switched off when the driver brakes harder.

BMW iX3 2026 Battery and Charging

The BMW iX3 50 xDrive is equipped with a large 800V-based 108.7kWh battery that boasts a WLTP-rated range of up to 805km on a single charge. That’s very impressive for an SUV that weighs over 2.3 tonnes and it is made possible with improve aerodynamics. The new iX3 has a drag coefficient rating of 0.24Cd, a significant improvement from its current BMW iX3’s 0.29Cd.

According to the spec-sheet, the iX3 50 xDrive has an attainable power consumption of 15.1 to 17.9 kWh per 100km, while on motorway speeds, it is higher at 19.4 to 22.7 kWh per 100km.

As the first BMW EV with 800V architecture, the iX3 50 xDrive boasts a peak DC Charging rate of up to 400kW, which can provide a range top up of up to 372km in just 10 minutes. A 10-80% DC charge takes 21 minutes when plugged in to a high-powered DC charger with 800A.

As a comparison, the current BMW iX3 has a single motor driving the rear wheels pushing 210kW (281hp) and 400Nm of torque. Equipped with a 74kWh battery, it has a WLTP-rated range of 460km and takes 34 minutes to charge from 10-80% with a peak rate of 150kW.

When it comes to AC charging, the new iX3 50 xDrive can be equipped with either 11kW and 22kW on-board charger. 0-100% charge takes under 6 hours with 22kW charging or 11 hours with 11kW charging.

For the first time on a BMW EV, you can use the new iX3 as a power bank on wheels. It now offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) up to 3.7kW which can be used to power your home appliances. On top of that, there’s also Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) up to 11kW with a BMW Wallbox Professional (DC), allowing users to power up their homes or even sell excess energy back to the grid.

Modern interior with Panoramic iDrive

As you would expect from a next generation platform, BMW has reimagined the interior which aims to offer a high-tech digital-first experiences without sacrificing usability. There’s still a physical gear selector and stalks, but BMW has removed the traditional instrument cluster.

Instead, you get a BMW Panoramic iDrive system which consists of a customisable projected screen that stretches the entire width of the dashboard. According to BMW, this approach elevates its intuitive operation and brings its “hands on the wheel, eyes on the road” principle to a new level of driver focus.

It runs on BMW Operating System X which offers a variety of personalisation via the BMW ID, intelligent driver assistance, and a variety of digital functions and connectivity features using the MyBMW app. It is also designed to be futureproof via BMW Software updates. The BMW Operating System X itself comes with native apps which include Spotify, Disney+, YouTube, Zoom and in-car gaming with AirConsole.

There’s also a 3D Head-Up display can be be used to show integrated navigation and automated driving features, augmented on the road.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also included as standard. Media titles or route guidance can be projected onto the BMW Panoramic Vision and head-up display.

The main highlight on the dash is the slanted “free-cut-design” Central Display with matrix backlight technology. The interface features vertically arranged widgets which are optimised for faster and direct access to what you need while driving.

The steering wheel has also received a radical redesign with multifunctional buttons as a physical input control. These are backlit buttons with haptic feedback. To reduce unnecessary distractions, the driver will only see illuminated buttons of what is available and what they would need, based on the situation.

As a 5-seater SUV, the BMW iX3 50 xDrive offers ample of storage space. The boot has a capacity of 520 litres and you can fold the rear seats down flat to expand storage up to 1,750 litres.

Another first on a BMW EV is a 58-litre frunk under the bonnet.

BMW iX3 2026 Production and Availability

The first Neue Klasse model will be built at the newly constructed BMW Group plant in Debrecen, Hungary. The iX3 50 xDrive will roll off the production line from Autumn 2025. The official market launch for the new BMW iX3 is scheduled for Spring 2026 in Europe and in Summer 2026 for the USA.

BMW has also revealed that the BMW iX3 will also be produced in their Shenyang facility in China. Tailored specifically to the needs and desires of Chinese customers, the deliveries for this variant are expected to start in Summer 2026.
