Mark Zuckerberg Sues Mark Zuckerberg Over Facebook Ban

Meta has found itself in the peculiar position of being sued by a man named Mark Zuckerberg—though not the one who created Facebook.

Indiana bankruptcy attorney Mark S. Zuckerberg has taken Meta to court, claiming that his Facebook account was repeatedly suspended for “impersonating a celebrity”.

According to the lawsuit filed in Indianapolis, his account has been disabled five times over eight years, costing him significant business opportunities. He also alleges that Meta wrongly removed USD11,000 (about RM46,400) worth of advertising, arguing that this amounted to a breach of contract.

“I’m Mark Steven [Zuckerberg]. And he’s Mark Elliot [Zuckerberg],” the lawyer clarified.

Meta eventually reinstated his account, but only after the lawsuit was filed. In a statement to Quartz, the company admitted it had “reinstated Mark Zuckerberg’s account, after finding it had been disabled in error,” adding that it was “working to try and prevent this from happening in the future”.

The attorney says he went through extensive verification processes—submitting photo ID, credit cards and even multiple headshots—but still couldn’t convince Meta’s systems he wasn’t pretending to be someone else.
