Apple has unveiled the iPhone 17, the latest model in its flagship smartphone line-up. It brings upgrades to the cameras, display, performance, and durability, along with iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence features. If you’re considering an upgrade, here’s what you need to know.

New Front Camera with Centre Stage

The iPhone 17 introduces Centre Stage on the front camera, designed to keep users centred in frame during photos, videos, and video calls. The new square sensor supports 18MP photos, a wider field of view, and the ability to capture landscape shots without rotating the phone.

The camera records 4K HDR video with stabilisation and supports dual capture, allowing simultaneous recording from the front and rear cameras.

48MP Cameras Across the Back

The rear system now features 48MP sensors on all cameras:

The cameras are designed to capture more detail in both wide-angle and macro shots. Video recording includes 4K at 60 fps with Dolby Vision, with additional modes such as Cinematic, Action, and Spatial Audio capture.

Display Improvements and Stronger Glass

The iPhone 17 is available in a 6.3-inch size with a Super Retina XDR display. It features ProMotion with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz, thinner borders, and an Always-On display.

Brightness reaches up to 3000 nits outdoors, while the new Ceramic Shield 2 front cover offers three times better scratch resistance and reduced glare.

Faster A19 Chip and Longer Battery Life

The new A19 chip, built on 3-nanometre technology, provides performance and efficiency improvements. Apple states that the CPU is up to 1.5 times faster than the A15 Bionic used in iPhone 13, while the GPU is more than twice as fast, enhancing AI and graphics performance.

Battery life extends to up to 30 hours of video playback, and the device supports fast charging to 50% in about 20 minutes with Apple’s 40W charger.

Connectivity and iOS 26

The iPhone 17 introduces the N1 wireless chip, adding Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread for improved connectivity and reliability.

The iPhone 17 starts with 256GB of storage, double the entry capacity of the iPhone 16, and is also available in 512GB. Colour options are black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white.

Pricing starts at RM3,999 for the 256GB model. Pre-orders open 12 September, with general availability beginning 19 September.
