Proton Achieves Best Sales Month In 3 Years

PROTON shows that they can reach new heights even when the competition heats up.

PROTON has recorded its highest monthly sales volume in 36 months, selling 15,228 units (domestic + export) in August 2025. This strong result pushed the brand’s year-to-date (YTD) total to 100,902 units, crossing the six-figure milestone earlier than expected. The achievement also strengthened Proton’s hold on second place in Malaysia’s sales rankings, during a month when the total industry volume (TIV) reached an estimated 73,890 units, the highest monthly total so far in 2025.

With this performance, Proton’s August market share rose to 20.6%, matching its April achievement and representing a 1.3% increase over July. The company’s YTD market share now stands at 19.5%.

The new Proton X50 was the star performer, with sales surging by 107.3% in August to 4,287 units, making it both the B-segment SUV leader and the most popular SUV in Malaysia. Together with July deliveries, more than 5,000 units have reached customers just 38 days after launch.

The Proton Saga continued its dominance as the brand’s overall bestseller with 6,331 units sold in August — its second-best month of 2025. This brings the Saga’s YTD total to 44,676 units, proving its enduring popularity.

Meanwhile, the Proton X70 added 627 units, pushing its YTD volume 39.4% higher than 2024. The Proton Persona (1,379 units) and Proton Iriz (305 units) also contributed to August’s success.

The Proton e.MAS 7, Malaysia’s best-selling EV, achieved 852 units in August (up 20.7% from July), bringing its YTD total to 5,811 units. The upcoming Proton e.MAS 5, the country’s first affordable EV, is expected to further boost sales alongside Proton’s new EV Plant in Tanjong Malim.

Exports also recorded strong momentum, with 586 units shipped in August, marking the best export month of 2025. This pushed Proton’s YTD export total to 3,144 units, a 49% increase over the previous year. Key export drivers included the X50, Saga, and e.MAS 7, with the latter set for official launch in Singapore on 17 September. Proton will extend its Gempak! Deal Campaign until October 2025.
