Proton e.MAS 7 Sustains No. 1 EV Position with 5,811 Units Delivered.
Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (PRO-NET) has announced that the Proton e.MAS 7 remains Malaysia’s best-selling electric vehicle (EV), leading the market for eight consecutive months since the beginning of 2025.
Between 1 January and 31 August 2025, a total of 5,811 units were delivered, comprising 5,455 local registrations and 356 units exported to four international markets. According to the latest JPJ data, the e.MAS 7 commands a 24% market share, meaning nearly one in every four EVs sold in Malaysia is a Proton e.MAS 7.
Customer-Centric Upgrades Drive MomentumProton attributes the sustained success to strong customer engagement and continuous product updates. New variants launched in July introduced over-the-air (OTA) software updates, fresh exterior colours, and interior customisation options, ensuring the e.MAS 7 stays aligned with evolving customer needs.
“We are sincerely grateful to all Proton e.MAS 7 owners for their trust and support,” said Zhang Qiang, CEO of PRO-NET. “Every milestone we achieve is because of your belief in us, and we remain committed to delivering lasting value and continuously improving the ownership experience for all Malaysians.”
Milestone: First Proton EV Plant in Tanjung MalimAugust also marked the official launch of PROTON’s first dedicated EV plant in Tanjung Malim, within the Automotive High Technology Valley (AHTV). Initially launched as a CBU (completely built-up) import from China, the e.MAS 7 will soon transition into CKD (completely knocked down) local assembly, making it the first locally assembled Proton EV.
The facility has an initial capacity of 20,000 vehicles per year, scalable to 45,000 units as demand increases. Local assembly is expected to boost Malaysia’s EV industry by improving affordability, creating new skilled jobs, and integrating more local suppliers into the EV ecosystem.
The development also aligns with the Government’s ambition to position Tanjung Malim as Malaysia’s EV hub, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently highlighting the need for a competitively priced national EV ahead of the upcoming ASEAN Summit in October 2025.
Driving Malaysia’s EV TransitionAs Malaysia’s pioneering national EV brand, Proton e.MAS continues to spearhead adoption with an expanding dealership network, comprehensive aftersales support, and a growing model lineup. The success of the e.MAS 7 underscores Proton’s role in shaping the future of sustainable mobility while strengthening Malaysia’s position in the regional EV landscape.
