Jaya Grocer invests over RM100 million in Selangor’s first automated warehouse to boost supply chain, create skilled jobs

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 — Jaya Grocer has invested more than RM100 million in a new automated warehouse in Selangor that introduces smarter technology and higher-skilled roles, marking its largest step into supply chain automation and the first of its kind in Malaysia’s grocery retail sector.

In a statement today, the home-grown grocery retailer said the automated warehouse will not only boost efficiency through smart technology and data tools but also create new opportunities for Malaysians to take on higher-skilled, technology-driven jobs.

“The new facility will serve as a central distribution hub, ensuring stores are replenished faster and more efficiently. This model offers a more reliable and consistent supply of fresh products for customers, while also generating greater efficiencies for the business,” it said.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said Jaya Grocer’s investment in the new automated warehouse in Petaling Jaya reflects the state’s thriving economic landscape and supportive business environment, in line with efforts to strengthen the economy, foster job creation, and improve people’s wellbeing through technology.

“We believe this facility will not only enhance the grocery sector’s supply chain but also create skilled roles, demonstrating how innovation can directly benefit our communities”, he said.

Meanwhile, Jaya Grocer chief executive officer Daniel Teng said the opening of the new facility is not just about scaling operations but also about building stronger connections with local suppliers, creating quality jobs for the community and ensuring Malaysians continue to have access to fresh, quality products every day.

“It underscores how the future of retail lies in strengthening supply chains and improving efficiency through innovation. We believe this is an investment in our future, and in the communities we serve,” he added.

Jaya Grocer noted that the decision to invest in a new warehouse and advanced logistics infrastructure was driven by its current facility reaching full capacity.

The company said the expansion will help meet surging customer demand, streamline operational workflows and introduce future-ready warehouse technology to local communities.

It added that the initiative also supports the government’s tech upskilling goals, while reflecting Jaya Grocer’s strategy to place technology at the core of its long-term growth and people development. — Bernama
