Finance Ministry: Mismatched MyKad and licence records could block RON95 subsidy

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 29 — Malaysians risk being denied access to subsidised RON95 petrol under the Budi95 scheme if their MyKad and driving licence details are not updated and matched, the Finance Ministry said today.

With the targeted subsidy system set to begin tomorrow, the ministry said mismatched information could block payment terminals from verifying a user's eligibility at petrol stations.

“Based on analysis... some driving licence records still use old identification numbers (such as police numbers, military numbers, or old IC numbers) that do not match the current 12-digit MyKad format,” the ministry said in a statement.

It urged all motorists to immediately verify that their driving licences are valid and accurately reflect their 12-digit MyKad number, name, and correct vehicle class to avoid any disruptions.

The data cross-check is a crucial part of the system, which relies on MyKad information to confirm subsidy eligibility at the point of sale.

Motorists with outdated or incorrect details are advised to update their records at the Road Transport Department (JPJ) without delay.

To minimise issues, the government will conduct weekly data synchronisation to ensure a smooth rollout of the Budi95 scheme.

Budi95 is a targeted fuel subsidy under the Budi Madani programme that allows eligible Malaysian citizens to purchase RON95 petrol at a subsidised price of RM1.99 per litre, with a monthly allocation of 300 litres.

The scheme was opened to Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients yesterday and will be extended to all other eligible Malaysians tomorrow.
