Settle your summonses for RM150 now or be blacklisted, JPJ warns nearly 2 million motorists

KOTA BHARU, Sept 30 — Nearly two million motorists risk being blacklisted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for failing to resolve outstanding traffic summonses for various offences, some dating back more than 15 years.

RTD senior enforcement director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the cases involve summonses issued under the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) as well as other common traffic violation notices, the New Straits Times reported.

In total, more than 1.45 million AWAS summonses, 296,684 Notices 114, and 164,598 Notices 115 remain unpaid.

He warned that offenders who ignore these summonses face increased compound rates of RM300 and demerit points under the Kejara system, which could lead to a licence suspension.

However, Muhammad Kifli urged those with outstanding fines to take advantage of a special offer that allows them to settle any of the three types of offences for a flat rate of just RM150. The offer, which began in January, is valid until the end of this year.

He said the Menora Tunnel in Ipoh is one of the worst hotspots, where up to 3,000 AWAS summonses are issued daily for speeding, especially during peak travel periods.

Selangor, Perak, and Johor record the highest number of summonses, largely due to the higher number of AWAS cameras in those states. 

He urged all road users to check their status and settle any fines before stricter enforcement action is taken.
