M’sian Man Wants RM1 From Everyone To Clear His RM4.7K Debt, Netizens Tell Him To 'Try Working Instead' | WeirdKaya
“Times are hard, but this is too much.”

That was the sentiment echoed online after a man shamelessly sought donations to clear his personal debt and even proudly shared the amount he owed.

The man uploaded a screenshot showing a debt of RM4,707.94, before asking strangers on social media to donate “just RM1 each” to help him settle the amount.

While he might have hoped for sympathy, what he got instead was a flood of criticism.

“This is irresponsible”

One woman, Sya, reshared the post on Threads and didn’t hold back.

For her, the man’s actions reflected irresponsibility and a lack of effort. To prove her point, she revealed that she personally juggles five to six jobs daily to fulfil her responsibilities.

“Don’t use the excuse that ‘our struggles are different’. Put in the effort! I know my responsibilities, that’s why I work multiple jobs,” she added.

“Too many shameless people begging online”

Many others agreed with Sya, saying that social media has made some Malaysians lose their sense of shame.

“There are too many shameless people begging on Thread,” one netizen commented.

Another added:“Anyone who donates to him really isn’t smart. There are many other people in real need. He spent carelessly and now expects others to cover his debts. He enjoys the things he bought, while we struggle to help him.”

Some even suggested that if he was truly desperate, he should earn through services or small jobs instead of relying on handouts.

For many netizens, the line between genuine need and irresponsibility seems to be blurring and it’s sparking uncomfortable questions about how far social media “sedekah” culture will go.
