Tortured, electrocuted and threatened to have her organs harvested, Malaysian woman finally returns home

A 33-YEAR-OLD woman from Klang who was tortured daily with electric shocks after being tricked by scam syndicate in Cambodia returned home safely last night.

Ong was duped by a Chinese-owned logistics company in Port Klang where she earlier worked, when her employer falsely claimed, the company was relocating to China and instructed her to transit through Cambodia first.

She was sold to a human trafficking syndicate in Cambodia and threatened to pay a huge ransom.

According to reports in Sin Chew, the 'boss' warned her that if she did not pay the ransom, they would take her organs and send her mutilated body home.

She struggled on the brink of life and death daily and after about two months, finally managed to escape and with the help of the Malaysian Humanitarian Organisation (MHO), returned home.

Cambodian police raided the location twice but failed to rescue her – her family initially considered paying the ransom after losing hope in the Cambodian authorities.

However, MHO advised the family to wait while they developed a rescue strategy without paying.

Ong recounted how she and a friend she had known for two years were invited to meet a 'Chinese boss' who offered them a high salary to work as an accountant in China.

 "I was also worried about Cambodia at first, but he agreed to accompany me on the transfer, so I let my guard down."

Taken to a park by several men

When the plane landed in Cambodia, Ong said she was taken to a park by several men, where she was imprisoned and forced to "launder money."

She said she was beaten almost every day during her house arrest.

"More than a dozen of them surrounded me and beat me. They also hit me with an iron chair and shocked me with electric batons. The pain was not only physical but also engraved in my heart.

"What's even more horrifying is that they even threatened to sell my organs and arranged for a 'doctor' to do a blood test”.

Her voice trembling, she said, "I really thought I wouldn't be able to go home."

Ong once risked escaping, but she was chased by security guards and broke her leg and now she must rely on a wheelchair to get around.

MHO Secretary-General Datuk Hishamuddin Hashim said the syndicate claimed that Ong was in debt, which was untrue.

She was forced to sign debt documents as an excuse so that she could be detained and tortured.

“We managed to contact the victim and guide her on how to escape from the syndicate’s detention centre. A representative was sent to pick her up," said Hishamuddin, adding that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will handle the matter and will call Ong for questioning if necessary.

To date, MHO has successfully rescued over 400 Malaysians from various human trafficking operations in Cambodia. - October 25, 2025
