Legendary veteran Hong Kong actor Stanley Fung passed away in Taiwan on 1 November, just days after the death of fellow veteran actor Benz Hui, who was also Stanley’s longtime best friend.

In early October, Stanley revealed that he had spent two months in hospital and later required an oxygen machine due to low blood-oxygen levels. He shared a photo of himself using the machine and reflected:

Benz Hui passed away on 28 October after cancer led to multiple organ failure. On the same day, Stanley penned a heartfelt post on social media, reflecting on their friendship, which began in the late 1970s.

In his post, Stanley also hinted that he would be joining Benz soon:

Stanley shared that he woke up on the morning of 28 October to the news of Benz’s passing via a text message, which he admitted was “not so surprising.”

Stanley had also been hospitalised twice in May this year due to oxygen deficiency.

He was best known for his comedic roles in the Hong Kong film industry, particularly in Five Lucky Stars (1983), which spawned six sequels over the next decade. Although he made fewer appearances on the big screen after the early 2010s, Stanley’s performances were never forgotten, and his legacy lives on.

His death was announced and confirmed by his relatives via his social media accounts.
