But a recent viralvideo has opened up a heated debate about whether customers should be more mindful of what they order.
“The rider will break his back if he’s doing it alone!”In the now-viral clip, a user filmed two men struggling to haul a long, bulky parcel supposedly weighing around 60kg up to the second floor of a flat with no lift.
Despite working together, both men were clearly having a hard time navigating the heavy item up the stairs. The uploader urged customers to think more logically before ordering extremely heavy items online.
He added, “Pity the rider who has to carry 60kg. Delivering to a second-floor flat… the rider’s back might break if he’s alone.”
Who’s really responsible? The video quickly sparked discussion among netizens, with both online shoppers and riders chiming in.
A large portion of netizens argued that customers shouldn’t be blamed for ordering heavy items.
After all, they said, if shoppers have already paid for the product and its delivery charges, the responsibility should fall on the platform or delivery company to handle logistics properly.
Many suggested that riders bring the issue up with their HQ so clearer guidelines and additional support can be provided.
Others side with the ridersHowever, another group of netizens defended the riders, saying customers should still be considerate and practical when making online purchases.
They argued that riders often work alone and face real physical risks when carrying extremely heavy parcels especially to walk-up apartments without lifts.
