For Eva Er, running a homestay in Johor Bahru had always been about creating comfortable spaces for travellers—until she walked into a scene that looked and smelled like something out of a horror film.

A Singaporean guest had checked in for six nights and appeared perfectly normal, polite, and well-mannered.

But on checkout day, silence—Er’s calls went unanswered.

Growing worried, she grabbed the spare key and headed over with a security guard.

The moment she opened the door, a wave of pungent vomit hit them-the guest was sprawled naked on the living room sofa, completely unresponsive, with green vomit covering 80 per cent of the property.

Er checked for breathing and immediately called the police.

From Lifesaver to Accused Thief: The Unthinkable Twist

Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where he later claimed he had eaten bak kut teh and suffered food poisoning, but Er remained puzzled by the alarming shade of green.

One commenter with medical knowledge explained that green vomit indicates bile, suggesting severe dehydration or electrolyte imbalance—a potentially fatal medical emergency.

Others joked it looked more like ‘lei cha’ (a traditional Hakka dish featuring a vibrant green, savoury soup), while one quipped: “Don’t insult our bak kut teh like this.”

But the nightmare didn’t end with the cleanup—the next morning, Er received a shocking message from the guest’s friend: “Your staff dared to take my friend’s money.”

Er was stunned, as she and her staff had carefully handled the guest’s belongings in the presence of paramedics, with everything properly documented and handed over to the ambulance crew.

Despite paramedics being present throughout, the guest’s friend persisted with allegations of theft, prompting Er to post a follow-up video warning fellow homestay operators: “Everyone needs to be careful.”

The Aftermath: When Hospitality Comes at a Heavy Price

Er now faces extensive repairs, with nearly all furniture requiring replacement.

She reflected that while she doesn’t expect guests to clean up, she hopes they’ll treat the space with basic respect.

But more than the property damage, it’s the accusation that stings.

She had potentially saved a man’s life, acted with complete transparency, and ensured everything was witnessed by medical professionals—yet still found herself defending against theft allegations.

The Singaporean guest survived, but the green stains—and the accusations—will take much longer to fade from both Er’s property and her memory.

Sometimes, the worst guests aren’t the rude ones—they’re the ones who check in normal, check out unconscious, and leave you accused of crimes you didn’t commit.
