'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 5 Theories: Will Mike And Cindy End Up Together?

So before I jump into my theories about everything I expect to see in Mayor of Kingstown Season 5, let me first address the question you all have in mind, that is, has the show been officially renewed by the streaming platform? Well, the straight answer is no. But seeing the popularity of the show, I think we might hear some good news very soon. Additionally, the lead actor, Jeremy Renner, and the show’s co-creator, Hugh Dillon, have shown interest in continuing the series for at least 5 seasons, but as you already know, it’s up to the streaming platform to take the final call. And even if it does get renewed for another season, we might have to wait for a year or two before we’ll finally be able to see our mayor again. And that’s a very long wait, mate. So while we sit tight, keeping our hopes high, let me just discuss some theories I have about what’s coming next season. Most of these speculations are based on the ending of season 4, which intentionally left a few plot threads open-ended, probably with the intention of addressing them in season 5. So without further ado, let’s jump straight into it. And also, a spoiler warning for those who haven’t yet watched the season 4 finale.

The Cartel Will Strike Back

So as I expected, the finale of season 4 didn’t really resolve the conflict between the cartel and the Crips. Instead, it escalated it even more. The Colombians won’t play things passively after Bunny declared war on them, and it’s likely that they are going to retaliate in the opening episodes of season 5. And this time, it’s going to be a full-fledged massacre. I think Cortez’s escape from Bunny’s grasp was an obvious setup for the next season, and it’s quite certain that he’ll return to Kingstown with a bigger army and even bigger guns, to take down Bunny and his best friend, Mike McLusky. He won’t leave any stone unturned to show his rivals what true power looks like, even if it means painting the whole city red. The fourth season had already established that the Colombians had brought advanced weaponry and gear to take over Kingstown, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought a tank to blow up Bunny’s fortress. In short, the cartel’s going to strike back at Bunny with all its might, and I know Bunny’s stronger than before because he now controls the forces of both Kingstown and Detroit, but he won’t be able to win this war, or even survive it, without Mike’s help. So at the end of the day, it’s Mike who’s going to save Bunny’s life as always, and end the war to restore peace in the valley. And how he’s going to do that is something I look forward to seeing in Season 5.

Nina Hobbs Is Going To Betray The Cartel

I hope you paid attention to Hobbs’ conversation with CO Cindy Stephens in the season 4 finale. I mean, man, she’s speaking Mike’s language. Mike said the same words to Cindy when she visited his office. So you see the connection there? Hobbs is definitely on Mike’s side, because she knows he’s the lesser evil, at least in front of the people she’s working for. Additionally, Hobbs is only helping the cartel because they threatened to harm her daughter, who I think is hiding somewhere in Singapore, but the cartel knows where she is, and therefore Hobbs has no choice but to follow their orders. In short, if Hobbs had a choice here, she would have definitely never helped gangsters like them, which brings me to the possibility that in the next season, Mike’s going to help Hobbs send her daughter to a safe location away from the cartel’s prying eyes, and as soon as they will lose their leverage on the warden, Mike will enlist Hobbs’ help to wipe out the Colombians’ influence over Anchor Bay completely. I know Hobbs won’t interfere directly in the fight between the Crips and the cartel, but she’s going to make things easier for Rafa so he can take his sworn enemy, Roberto Cruz, by surprise. And once the Colombians are finally dealt with, I think Mike will leave Hobbs alone so she can do her duty righteously without any outside intervention.

Furthermore, I can entertain the possibility that Cortez will try to get rid of Hobbs or replace her with someone else. But the chances of that happening are significantly low, because the cartel can’t rig the entire justice system and bring in another warden so easily. It’s likely that the next warden won’t submit to their wishes, and will make the lives of the Colombians a living hell, so Hobbs is the best bet they have right now. I guess this was the reason Cortez gave her a lecture on loyalty and how to be a good soldier, because they know she’s irreplaceable and the only thing they can do is intimidate her. It was also why they targeted her deputy, David Torres, and not her. And I believe Mike knows that the cartel can’t lay a finger on the new warden, so he’s going to use this weakness against them.

Frank Moses Will Likely Return

I really found it quite odd that the finale of season 4 didn’t make a single mention of what happened to Frank Moses after he was arrested in episode 9. We know that D.A. Evelyn Foley is building a case against him, but as viewers we definitely needed a little more information on that, right? Also, I don’t think Moses is the kind of man who’ll go down without a fight, which makes me believe that he’s definitely going to return in Season 5.  A powerful gangster like Moses can pull the strings even from behind bars, so he’ll most likely send his men after Bunny and Mike and punish them for stabbing him in the back. Additionally, there’s a chance he could use his influence to get out of prison, but with Evelyn personally handling his case, I don’t think it will be easy for Moses to escape the law this time. Well, whatever it is, I don’t think that Moses’ chapter can end so abruptly, and the show’s creators definitely have some grand plans for Lennie James’ character. The King of Detroit, just like the cartel, is going to strike back at those who have wronged him, and I think eventually, he will meet his fateful end, most likely inside prison. My guess is it is Bunny’s men who will end his life.

New Foes Can Become Mike’s Next Nightmare

It goes without saying that the next season of Mayor of Kingstown can bring a new antagonist to town to fill the power vacuum. With Milo, Callahan, and likely Moses out of the picture, Mike will seemingly need some new enemies to keep the audience entertained. And this new antagonist can either be affiliated to the Russians or the Aryans as both these factions have lost their influence in Kingstown after Mike got rid of their leaders. It’s also possible that the cartel will send a new general to Kingstown to assist Cortez in furthering their motives. Well, I won’t theorize much on the new characters as it totally depends on the writers of the show on how they will increase the stakes for Mike and his friends in the next season.

Cindy Will Leave Kingstown

I guess it’s obvious that Cindy’s encounter with that psycho, Breen, has left her traumatized to the core, and she’s now really worried for her kids, because if something happens to her, who’s going to look after them? You may have noticed that when Cindy visited Mike’s office, she asked him to walk away from all this, but we all know that Mike couldn’t do that. He had been trying to run away from the town since season 1, but he hasn’t succeeded yet. Something or other always held him back, whether it was his father’s death or his brother’s. So Mike doesn’t have the luxury to just leave things behind, but Cindy still has that choice, and I think in the next season, she will most likely decide to switch jobs and leave Kingstown for her own good and the safety of her kids. And Mike won’t try to stop her. From the very beginning of Season 4, Mike was quite hesitant about taking Cindy’s help, because he didn’t want her to get hurt or lose her life for helping a man like him. And therefore, when she’s going to tell Mike that she wants to leave Kingstown, Mike will respect her decision and help her relocate, because that’s the least he can do for her. So I think this is how Mike and Cindy’s love story will come to an end.

Kyle Will Make a Difficult Choice

Along with other loose ends, the finale of Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 has left the fate of Mike’s brother, Kyle, hanging. We don’t know what’s going to happen to him next. Whether he’ll stay in Kingstown with his baby, Mitch, or leave his hometown, just like he had promised Tracy before her death. Additionally, Kyle’s been hella suicidal since Tracy’s death, and we don’t know if killing Callahan is going to ease his pain or not. My best guess is that Kyle will likely bring baby Mitch to Kingstown and raise him on his own, but what is he going to do professionally? The way he pulled his father’s badge out of the burned-down house did suggest that Kyle eagerly wants to return to duty, but I think that door has closed for him. Mike has somehow managed to get him out of prison, but he may not be able to join KPD again. This means if Kyle decides to live so he can give his son the life his late wife wanted for him, then he may have to work for or with Mike. In short, he’ll  become a gangster just like his brother to run his family. Is that a rational choice? I wouldn’t think so, but Kyle doesn’t have any other options either.

And if you ask me how things are going to end for the McLuskys, then I think, at the end of it all, one of them is going to meet their tragic fate. If it’s Kyle who’s going to bite the dust, then I think Mike will make a conscious decision to leave Kingstown to raise baby Mitch away from the shadows of his family’s criminal past. However, if it is Mike who will die in the end, then I think Kyle will have two choices in front of him. Either he’ll step up as the next mayor of Kingstown and fill his elder brother’s shoes, or he’ll leave town for the sake of his kid, thereby putting an end to their family business forever. I think the way their family house has been burned to the ground does hint at the possibility that McLusky’s legacy will be lost forever sometime in the near future. And whoever survives the end of it all is going to leave things behind to start anew in a different city or maybe even a different country, never to look back again.

So these are my thoughts on everything I expect to see in the next season of Mayor of Kingstown, but if you have anything to add, please be my guest, and drop your theories in the comments below.
