Realme to become an Oppo sub-brand, following OnePlus’ integration move
1 天前
Realme will once again become a sub-brand under Oppo. The move follows the integration of OnePlus into Oppo back in 2021, which was aimed at streamlining operations and resources.
As reported by Reuters, Realme has confirmed that the brand will be integrated into Oppo, with the move expected to help both companies pool resources and cut costs.
Once the integration is complete, Realme and OnePlus will operate as sub-brands under Oppo. However, it is likely that Realme will continue to maintain its own identity as a youth-centric brand.
To recap, Oppo and Realme are smartphone brands under BBK Electronics, which also owns Vivo and iQOO. The consolidation was to be expected, as the smartphone market is becoming more challenging due to market saturation and consumers holding on to their devices longer than before.
With shared resources, it will be interesting to see whether Realme will share the same software development team as Oppo and OnePlus. At the moment, OnePlus devices are still shipped with OxygenOS, although they share the same codebase, UI layout and features as Oppo’s ColorOS.
When Realme was first introduced in 2018, it started as a sub-brand under Oppo but eventually became an independent brand. In Malaysia, the OnePlus and Oppo brands are managed and distributed by Jie Business Sdn. Bhd., while Realme is distributed by DTL Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.
