Liverpool draw 'feels like a defeat' for Wirtz after Burnley stalemate

LIVERPOLL forward Florian Wirtz said Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley “feels like a defeat” as the Premier League champions dropped points for a fourth consecutive game.
Arne Slot’s side dominated at Anfield, registering 32 shots with 11 on target, but could only score once through Wirtz after Dominik Szoboszlai missed a penalty.
Marcus Edwards levelled for lowly Burnley with their only shot on target in the 65th minute, extending Liverpool’s frustrating run.
Wirtz, who has hit form after a slow start to his Anfield career, expressed his frustration at the result.
“It feels like a defeat,” he said. “When we had so many shots and so many on target, I think we had to score more goals.”
The Germany international acknowledged the team’s profligacy but vowed to improve.
“Some days are like this -– you try everything but in the end it doesn’t go in the goal,” Wirtz added. “We only take one point but I can only say (in) the next game we go again and try to do better.”
Manager Arne Slot bemoaned his side’s inability to convert chances despite creating numerous opportunities.
“We should have won this game,” Slot told the BBC. “There was not a lot I could ask more in terms of chance creation.”
The draw leaves Liverpool fourth in the Premier League table, seven points behind third-placed Aston Villa.
They remain just one point ahead of Manchester United in fifth spot, having now gone 12 games unbeaten in all competitions but struggling to secure wins.
