Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim today decreed that all efforts in developing new education systems for the country must be in line with the National Education Policy.
He ruled that Bahasa Melayu must be the primary language as it is the national language.
“Therefore, any proposal to recognise any other education system must accept the Malay language and history.
“If there are those who don’t accept Bahasa Melayu, then you might as well not live in Malaysia,” he said when delivering the Royal Address at the First Meeting of the Fifth Session for Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara earlier today (19 January) at the Parliament building in Kuala Lumpur.
The King added that the national education system needs to be strengthened as the foundation of nation building, identity, and the future of the country.
In order to maintain national sovereignty and promote racial harmony, he also discussed the significance of enacting legislation pertaining to national security and pertinent foreign threats.
He explained that emerging digital security risks, threats to information integrity, and the rise of deepfake technology could create opportunities for fraud and weaken social stability.
Sultan Ibrahim emphasized that serious crime, terrorism, and actions involving the sensitive “3R” issues must be tackled decisively.
He also voiced his support for initiatives to strengthen laws governing elections, democratic institutions, and political financing. These include proposals to cap the prime minister’s tenure at two terms or ten years, separate the roles of the attorney general and public prosecutor, introduce a freedom of information law, and establish an ombudsman.
In the same speech, Sultan Ibrahim reminded all members of the House that every debate, decision and vote in the House must be carried out with full trust because it will determine the future of the country.
