Fate Of New Vegas: Who Will Win The War In Fallout Season 3?

The second season of Amazon Prime’s “Fallout” has concluded in an epic fashion, teasing an uncertain, cataclysmic future for New Vegas as the threat of a war looms on the horizon. Two major factions of the “Fallout” franchise, the New California Republic, aka NCR, and Caesar’s Legion, are going to lock horns in the already confirmed upcoming third season of the series to assume control over New Vegas, and whoever wins might gain access to infinite power in the form of a cold fusion reactor, which has been powering House’s digitized consciousness in Lucky 38. However, the battle of New Vegas might also see the all-controlling Enclave or a new chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel getting involved as well, and the final outcome of the war might be quite unexpected.

Spoilers Ahead

New Caesar Leads His Legion to Vegas Strip

One of the most dreaded, bloodthirsty militias operating in the Mojave section of the Wasteland, Caesar’s Legion made their first appearance in the second season of “Fallout.” The Caesar/ancient Roman Republic era obsessed faction appeared only in two episodes, and even during that brief timespan got engaged in a senseless civil war—thanks to Ghoul’s trickery, which continued long after the death of their founder/chief, Edward Sallow. According to Sallow’s last wish, the faction should have been disbanded with his demise, as the megalomaniac leader left a note specifically mentioning that he himself is the legion, which will end with his demise. However, as fate would have it, the note fell in the hands of the unhinged, sadistic, power-hungry Lacerta Legate, and lost its intended purpose. Legate literally ate it to keep Caesar’s fate a secret, killed the only legionary who might have read it, and assumed the position of new Caesar, leading the remnants of a weakened Legion to the so-called ‘Holy Land,’ the New Vegas. The faction will face their longtime rival, NCR, who have gradually regained strength in the final moments of the second season, but will it be enough to prevent Legion’s complete takeover and the beginning of their tyrannical rule over the Strip?

NCR Is Consolidating Its Lost Strength

Created a hundred years after the nuclear apocalypse, which turned the world into a wasteland, the New California Republic founded their capital in the Shady Sands and differentiated themselves from other factions in their steady adherence to ethics and so-called civilized law.  Compared to the other groups, NCR has more advanced tech at their disposal, as the use of power armor, knowledge and utility of cold fusion reactors, and usage of modern weapons like anti-material rifles indicate. NCR is not all good, but compared to raider clans and the Legion, they are a much better option, and since a long time following the Treaty of New Vegas, they have remained the protector of New Vegas. While the never-ending conflicts with the Brotherhood of Steel and the Legion had taken a toll on the NCR’s strength, the biggest blow to their military came when Shady Sands was nuked under Hank McLean’s orders. The established governance of NCR was wiped out, leaving the faction as a mere shadow of its former self. However, after decades of inaction, NCR is revealed to have regained some of its former strength. In the finale of second season, as Maximus makes his courageous last stand against a horde of Deathclaws and awaits his imminent death, an NCR ranger shoots one of the Deathclaws to death using his anti-material rifle. While the rest of the NCR troop, severely lacking potent military gear, doesn’t look as promising, there is a chance that they will make a comeback by the time they face Legate’s army in war. Additionally, NCR has the knowledge of weaponizing a cold fusion reactor, and for a digitized House, the presence of NCR in New Vegas is a much more acceptable option than letting the psychopaths of the Legion run amok.

Quintus’ Chapter Might Interfere in Battle

In the post-credits scene of the second season, of “Fallout,” Dane hands a blueprint to Liberty Prime Alpha for the manic Quintus, much to the excitement of series fans who will remain eager to see this pre-war giant mech in action. Quintus is going to unleash this weapon on the remaining chapters of Brotherhood of Steel, but in order to do so, he needs it to become operational. Liberty Prime needs a suitable power source to run, which might prompt Quintus and his faction to head towards New Vegas to get their hands on a cold fusion reaction. Liberty Prime is going to make Quintus’ chapter unstoppable, and things are going to get interesting if the war of New Vegas turns into a three-way battle.

Enclave’s Attempt to Take Over

House has mentioned, or at least hinted about, the existence of the Enclave several times, and it is safe to guess that while keeping New Vegas protected, he has not given up control to the secretive all-controlling group. From creating super mutants and Deathclaws to perfecting mind-controlling chips to experimenting on vault dwellers, the Enclave has been orchestrating every major event from the shadows since the pre-war era. Knowing that an active cold fusion reactor is present in Lucky 38 in New Vegas, there is a strong chance that the Enclave will try to capitalize on the warfare among different factions in their eagerness to dominate the Wasteland by gaining the source of infinite power. Their technological and military might is much superior compared to all the aforementioned factions, and the Enclave is surely the strongest contender in that regard. The fate of New Vegas is uncertain with so many power players about to engage in conflict, and showrunners have even teased about the arrival of new factions like Wild Dog Packs and The Followers of the Apocalypse in the third season.
