The Cobrats faced KL Tigers in the Under-10 final at the Bangkok International Rugby 10s – a fitting climax that highlighted the growing depth of youth rugby in Malaysia.
BANGKOK: In a weekend that underscored the rising tide of youth rugby in Malaysia, the Cobrats claimed the Under-10 title at the Bangkok International Rugby 10s, defeating domestic rivals KL Tigers 15–5 in the final earlier today.
The victory capped a dominant, unbeaten run for the young squad, who combined flair in attack with a defensive record that was, for the most part, impenetrable.
The Cobrats arrived in Bangkok with a clear intent, dismantling the group stages with a clinical edge. They opened their account with a 30–5 win over Bangkok Japanese before shifting into a higher gear, racking up 80 points without reply in back-to-back shutouts against Mini Rugby T4 Angthong and Bangkok Lions Yellow.
However, it wasn’t all one-way traffic. Their mettle was truly tested in a gritty 5–0 win over DB Pirates Black—a match defined more by “defensive steel” and composure than the highlight-reel tries of the morning sessions.
By the end of the pools, the statistics told the story: four matches, four wins, and a single try conceded.
The final provided a fascinating subtext for the travelling fans, as the two Malaysian powerhouses squared off on Thai soil. The KL Tigers entered the pitch with plenty of intent, looking to disrupt the Cobrats’ rhythm early on.
Yet the Cobrats remained unfazed. Three well-worked tries saw them pull away.
While the Tigers fought back, the Cobrats’ 15–5 victory felt like a fair reflection of a side that had stayed organised under the Bangkok heat.
