Paradise 2 Theory: Is Alex Sinatra’s Secret Project? What Is She Building?

[Spoiler Alert] Okay, I am not here to discuss the plot of the first three episodes. If you are looking for that, here is your link. So, what I am going to talk about is a theory of mine. In the first episode, you may have noticed that Link, a survivor, experienced a sudden ringing in his head and a nosebleed while he was trying to convince his newfound love, Annie, to go to Colorado with him. The pain was random, so we didn’t pay much heed to it. Even when our protagonist, Xavier Collins, suffered a similar dizzy spell, followed by a nosebleed, it seemed coincidental. But when we saw Billy experience something similar, then it became apparent that the show might be trying to tell us something. We don’t know what Link saw when his head started spinning, but in Xavier’s case, he saw glimpses of the future where a bearded Xavier was walking behind Link in an undisclosed facility. In a nutshell, these sudden nosebleeds weren’t random, and it could be possible that Link and Xavier are somehow connected.
Henry Miller’s MachineOkay, so in the third episode, we came across a physicist, Henry Miller, who ran a company called Vestige Quantum. Yes, the same guy who talked to Billy about quantum mechanics, but he isn’t that bright. Not that I’m saying I am. Even I don’t know what “quantum superposition and quantum entanglement” exactly means. But I think I have heard those words before in Apple TV’s Dark Matter, so I got what he was talking about. He was building a machine that had something to do with time, which explains why Sinatra was eager to buy his company. At the beginning of episode 3, Dr. Louge, the scientist she had met at the convention, told Sinatra that even if she found a hole big enough to hide from the repercussions of the supervolcanic eruption with her family, it wouldn’t be enough. After the eruption, temperatures would stabilize, but then the cooling would stop, and the trapped greenhouse gases would take over. What he meant was: what was doomed was doomed forever, and there was no way Mother Earth could heal herself. The bigger problem here is that Sinatra and her family couldn’t stay in the hole forever. Paradise City was designed to have only 30 years of power, which means they would have to leave the city one day and face the wrath of nature. But Dr. Louge didn’t leave Sinatra completely hopeless. He told her, “There’s one thing that can fix this: time.” So this is what Sinatra’s side project was all about. Henry, the resident president of the bunker, was told that a huge portion of the power generated by the bunker’s nuclear reactors was being siphoned off for Sinatra’s project. That’s because she knew that the bunker wouldn’t be able to protect humanity for long, which was why she wanted to speed up her side project, likely a multiversal machine.
In episode 3, Henry Miller asked Billy twice, “Do you think things happen for a reason, or are they just random?” The reason why this dialogue is so important is because in Dark Matter, a quantum physicist, Jason Dessen, said something similar. He told us that every choice we make in life shapes our reality, so in one reality, Billy might not have shot Henry; in another, Billy might never have met Sinatra; in yet another, Billy might have shot Henry’s young protege, Link. Yes, it’s that same old concept of the multiverse: millions or billions of worlds, each one a little bit different than every other. And what Sinatra might be looking for is a world where the Caldera Volcano never destroyed the world. Or maybe a world where the humans weren’t so cruel to nature that climate change became a world-destroying phenomenon.
However, it can be theorized that Henry’s machine might be destroying the very fabric of the multiverse, which is why people around it are experiencing sudden nosebleeds. When Billy arrived at Henry’s house, he gave him a tissue before he shot the man dead, as if Henry knew that he was going to have a nosebleed. Furthermore, Henry specifically asked Billy not to shoot his young protege, suggesting that Henry was aware that Link and Billy were going to cross paths. So could it be possible that Henry’s machine shows glimpses of the future, and a person can change it by making a better choice? Or is it something more complex? In Xavier’s case, we saw a bearded Xavier with Link, which could be a future event, where Xavier teamed up with Link to locate the secret machine so he could destroy it before it breaks everything apart. Or Xavier’s vision could be a different reality altogether, which he caught glimpses of because someone had triggered the machine. We all know that it’s Pandora’s box that Sinatra’s playing with, and if anything goes haywire, then she could trigger events that won’t just destroy one world, but the whole multiverse. However, I don’t think Henry has created a time machine, because it will make things too messy for the show to handle. Hopefully, we will find out more about this machine in the next episodes.
The Curious Case of AlexI believe this multiversal machine is called “Alex,” named after Henry Miller’s late wife, who was suffering from Huntington’s disease. After Sinatra took over the company, she likely didn’t change the name of his esteemed project, because she respected the sentiment. She had lost her son at a very young age, and she built Paradise City to keep his memory alive. However, the question that’s been constantly bugging me is where this machine is located. The easy answer is: it’s somewhere in the underground city or just in its vicinity. The reason being, this machine is being powered by the bunker’s nuclear reactors, so it’s logical for it to have been built nearby. However, neither Xavier nor anyone else has ever suffered any dizzy spells in the bunker so far. But coincidentally, both Xavier and Link had a nosebleed and a vision when they were in Memphis. So you understand why I am a bit confused here.
Okay, I have a wild theory on this, and I really am shooting in the dark here, so bear with me. I believe Sinatra’s secret project has been set up somewhere close to Graceland Mansion, and every time someone triggers the machine, it sends out a shockwave that affects people on the brink of making a very crucial decision in their life. For example, Link had the choice to either leave with his pack or stay behind to spend the rest of his life with Annie. In both cases, the outcome of their lives would have been totally different. Similarly, Xavier could have returned to the bunker to be with his kids, but instead, he decided to fly towards Atlanta to find Teri. Meanwhile, Billy had the choice to either shoot Link or spare his life. So what I am trying to say here is that every choice a person makes branches off into a new world. It was something Henry Miller tried to explain to Billy through his example of “A 50 percent chance of rain also means a 50 percent chance of sun.” In one reality, it could be raining, but in another, it’s total sunshine. And I think Henry Miller’s machine might somehow be messing with these realities, which is why a few folks are suffering from nosebleeds and sudden ringing in their heads. However, the only flaw in this theory is that Memphis is more than a thousand miles away from Colorado, so it’s not likely that Sinatra’s machine is being powered by the bunker’s reactors. However, if this machine is in the bunker, shouldn’t it be affecting the people near it, instead of folks out near Memphis? Well, let me know what you think about this mess.
