Two unique new MacBook Pros are launching this year, starting next week

Apple will launch its newest MacBook Pro next week with M5, and there’s another distinct model coming later this year with M6. Here’s what to expect from Apple’s two unique MacBook Pro launches this year.

Apple CEO Tim Cook says new products will launch next week. And among those debuts will be new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

From the outside, these new MacBook Pros will look identical to the M5 MacBook Pro that launched in October. Same design, same ports, same overall feel.

But inside, the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips will make these new MacBook Pros more powerful than ever.

If you’re in the market for a new high-end laptop, the new MacBook Pro will offer a lot to love.

But if you can hold out a while, you might be better off waiting for the M6 model later this year.

It’s not often that Apple products get two hardware revisions in the same year. But that’s exactly what’s expected for the MacBook Pro—and the M6 model has a lot going for it.

Later this year, the M6 MacBook Pro is rumored to feature:

The last time Apple made the MacBook Pro thinner and lighter, it was a disaster that took far too long to correct. That’s largely due to the faulty Butterfly keyboard, but the reduction of ports was a problem too.

No details are available yet on how Apple plans to overhaul the MacBook Pro’s industrial design. But I suspect the gains in thinness and lightness won’t require any significant compromises like last time.

Two new MacBook Pro models: wrap-up

If you’re content with the current MacBook Pro design and want the most powerful laptop Apple sells, next week’s M5 Pro and M5 Max models shouldn’t disappoint.

But if you’re willing to wait, and the idea of a hardware revamp sounds appealing, waiting for the M6 MacBook Pro this fall could be the right move.

Are you planning to upgrade to a new MacBook Pro this year? Which model will you choose? Let us know in the comments.
