Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 10 Recap: Can Megumi Defeat Reggie?

With the Culling Game arc moving at a rapid pace, each episode of the ongoing season of “Jujutsu Kaisen” features new adversaries and exciting matchups, keeping up the brilliant momentum of the series throughout. Previously, following a spectacular trial format battle with Yuji, defense attorney-sorcerer Higuruma reconnected with his conscience and decided to accept Yuji’s proposal of using his existing points to add a new rule to the game. The new rule allowed players to exchange points between themselves, ensuring even the ones who will not participate in battles have a chance of survival. On the other hand, Megumi was tricked by Remi, who lied to him about taking him to Higuruma, only to set him in a trap set by a group of sorcerers led by Reggie Star.

Spoilers Ahead

Megumi vs. Reggie Star’s Group

Picking up from the ending of the eighth episode, the tenth episode of “Jujutsu Kaisen” begins as Reggie Star speculates on Kenjaku’s grand plan behind initiating the Culling Game. To prepare for whatever Kenjaku is planning, Reggie is accumulating enough points and gathering strong allies to stay on the safe side. Megumi throws shade at Remi by asking Reggie that in that case why is she part of his team? Reggie mentions Remi’s job is to lure unassuming sorcerers. Remi is so deluded she genuinely believes that a schemer like Reggie is going to protect her during a crisis.

Megumi offers Reggie a chance to settle things among them without conflict, as he mentions the new point transfer rule, which is going to be added soon (Yuji vs. Higuruma hadn’t ended at that moment), and he wants a hundred points from Reggie and his allies. Reggie outright rejects the proposal and signals for an ambush, and one of his lackeys, Chizuru Hari, tries to blindside Megumi by using his speed. However, Megumi hides within his shadows to launch an even faster counter, and throws Hari off of the building, siccs one of his Shikigamis, Nue, on him. Warning Remi to stay out of his way, Megumi unleashes Divine Dog on Reggie, who effortlessly subdues it, much to Megumi’s surprise. Reggie taunts Megumi by mentioning that if he doesn’t go all out and isn’t prepared to kill, he will not survive this conflict.

Moments later, one of Reggie’s powerful sorcerer allies, Iori Hazenoki, joins the fray; he possesses the ability to use his body parts as immensely destructive explosives. Also, it is pretty impressive how he constantly uses the Reverse Cursed Technique to heal himself and regrow his destroyed body parts. Taking out his own eyes and teeth, Hazenoki uses them as projectile explosives and catches Megumi off guard. Remi is caught in the explosion as well, and Megumi tries to make her understand how his teammates don’t care a dime about a small fry like her. A betrayed Remi seeks validation from Megumi and remains annoyingly latched onto him. Hari foolishly believes this is his time to get payback from Megumi and approaches him when Culling Game admin Shikigami Kogane announces the addition of a new point-sharing rule (Yuji has convinced Higurama by now). After a brief scuffle with Hari, Megumi overpowers him with ease and brutally kills him, earning five points in the process. Megumi is no Yuji; he has no qualms with taking lives if the need arises and considers changing his approach from now on. Instead of asking sorcerers to settle by point sharing, he needs to do whatever is necessary to keep his sister, Tsumiki, from being forced to participate in the Culling Game.

An Unexpected Rescue

Reggie and Hazenoki reach Megumi to continue their fight, and Hazenoki throws one of his explosive teeth directly at Megumi. Surprisingly enough, Fumihiko Takaba, the failed comedian turned sorcerer, who previously appeared in the third episode of the ongoing season, arrives out of nowhere and saves Megumi by taking the explosive on his face. Dressed in a ridiculous-looking suit, which is inspired by the superhero he idolized during childhood, Takaba hilariously shows unbelievable confidence and mentions he can’t stand the injustice of a teenager having to face two sorcerers in a matchup. Takaba’s bizarre antics feel so bewildering in the context of a grim, bloody battle that both parties come to a standstill for quite a while. Takaba makes some unfunny jokes, which fail to impress anyone, but as an entertainer, he believes his job is to perform nevertheless. And he performs indeed, in the most unexpected way, as his single dropkick throws Hazenoki crashing through the building. Takaba might be a timid, nervous wreck in his real life, but at present, as a newly awakened sorcerer, he is completely transformed and strong enough to go toe-to-toe with powerful foes like Reggie and Hazenoki.

Seeing a glimpse of his strength, Megumi realizes having Takaba as an ally is a blessing and plans to split up—he will take on Reggie while Takaba keeps Hazenoki busy. In the meantime, Megumi learns from Kogane that Higurama has forfeited his points, which means Yuji has been successful and Megumi no longer needs to approach Higurama. Megumi offers Reggie a last chance to walk away, as this fight is somewhat inconsequential, but Reggie is unwilling to give up and wants to get payback for Hari’s death. Megumi decides to continue the fight and advises Takaba to steal Hazenoki’s point first if he intends to kill him. Killing a sorcerer grants a player five points, whereas if Takaba can force Hazenoki to give up his points, he will have 40+ points already.

Takaba is on another level as he literally swats Hazenoki’s explosive eye attack and even manages to sneak past him to deliver a kancho. Being absolutely humiliated, Hazenoki tries to retaliate, only to get a kick in the face by Takaba, which sends him flying. Even Megumi mentions he is lucky that Takaba is not his adversary. Takaba channels Reigen’s energy from “Mob Psycho 100,” and viewers have surely loved every second of his appearance.

Reggie’s Unique Ability: Can Megumi Defeat Reggie?

Reggie’s strange outfit—bills hanging around all over his body—has a specific purpose as it is connected with his innate technique, which allows him to manifest anything mentioned in the bills. As a tense battle ensues, Megumi unleashes a number of his Shikigamis on Reggie, who is able to heal himself by manifesting a two-day spa treatment upon himself by using one of his bills. Creating random objects using the bills, Reggie is also able to launch them as projectile weapons to attack Megumi.

After a point, Reggie rightly deduces that Megumi needs time to use his Shikigamis once they are injured, which is why he is using multiple ones against Reggie. Cornered and out of options, Megumi decides to lure Reggie inside a community gymnasium, intending to unleash his Domain Expansion, which is incomplete without a definite barrier. After surviving a barrage of Reggie’s attacks, Megumi makes a desperate move by activating his domain expansion, Chimera Shadow Garden. Reggie realizes he was grossly mistaken by considering Megumi as a pushover, while Megumi prepares to deliver a decisive beatdown to his opponent. The next episode will focus on the remainder of the battle between Megumi and Reggie, but most importantly, Takaba’s fight with Hazenoki will showcase the comedian’s innate technique, which is going to be crucial in the series in upcoming chapters.
