Shrinking creator explains finale ending, confirms season 4 cast and time jump

Shrinking’s season 3 finale is now available on Apple TV, and today a new interview with co-creator Bill Lawrence reveals a lot about what’s coming in season 4.

Shrinking season 4 will bring back entire ensemble, have ‘significant’ time jump, new story

Bill Lawrence is behind three of Apple TV’s best comedies: Ted Lasso, Bad Monkey, and Shrinking.

Today alongside the Shrinking season 3 finale airing, the series co-creator revealed to The Hollywood Reporter lots of details about what’s coming in season 4.

First, Lawrence explained why the season 3 finale felt like it could have been the series finale. He said, “This is the ending of the three-season story we pitched…This is the finale of that three-season story.” Initially the plan was for only three seasons, and the team wanted to honor that original vision.

So what’s coming next in season 4?

Most importantly, Lawrence confirmed that the “entire ensemble is returning.” That’s right, even Harrison Ford. Lawrence explains:

Regarding the season 4 plot, Shrinking will tackle a whole new story now that the initially planned three-season arc is over. Lawrence says, “My one hint would be that I don’t think you can ever get away from where the show started, which is with Jason Segel and Harrison Ford.”

He says a time jump is coming for season 4, and it “will definitely be significant and beyond a year or two.”

In other words, the new story won’t re-tread the familiar ground of Jimmy wrestling through grief, forgiveness, and moving forward.

Some additional tidbits Lawrence shared include:
