Police find ketum leaves in car after LPT2 crash

Police discovered bundles of ketum leaves in a vehicle following an accident on the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 near Dungun

DUNGUN: Police discovered several bundles of ketum leaves in a car involved in an accident on the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 (LPT2) today.

The Perodua Viva, driven by a 29-year-old man, skidded and crashed into a road barrier near the Paka exit at 8.30 am.

The vehicle was travelling from Kuala Terengganu towards Kuantan, Pahang, at the time of the incident.

The driver was flung from the vehicle and sustained injuries to his head and hands.

Police arriving at the scene found black plastic bundles containing the leaves scattered outside the car.

Further checks led to the discovery of more bundles of ketum leaves in the car boot.

The total weight and value of the seized leaves are still being determined.

The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
