'Bandi' Ending Explained & Series Recap: Will There Be A Season 2?

Bandi is a 2026 French crime drama series streaming on Netflix, set entirely on the Caribbean island of Martinique, which is an overseas territory of France. The eight-part show follows the lives of Kylian Lafleur and his ten siblings, who face extreme difficulties one after another following the accidental death of their beloved and protective mother, all amidst changing dynamics on the streets of Martinique, with an increase in drug-related violence. While Bandi unfortunately does not really explore Martinique and the lives of the islanders in a true sense, its intense and gritty plot will be enough to impress fans of the action genre and keep them waiting for a 2nd season.

Spoiler Alert

What is the series about?

Bandi opens on a usual night in the French territory of Martinique in the West Indies, where three youngsters wait and keep watch on a specific shop in the distance. But as the shopkeeper pulls down the shutter and leaves, the night turns unusual for the trio, who put on masks and hurriedly rush towards the establishment. It is clear that they plan on robbing the business, but doing so is not an easy task, at least for people as unprepared as them. The youngsters had clearly not thought the plan through, and they are easily noticed on the security camera inside the shop, through which the owner even speaks to them, warning them to leave. Despite the owner’s threat that the dangerous gang leader, Milord, whom he pays for protection, will mess up their lives, the young men ultimately find some cash and steal it. As the next day pans out, it becomes evident that the thieves had been led by a man named Kingsley, or King, as his ring is visible in the camera footage.

King is one of the eleven siblings of the big but loving Lafleur family, headed by their strong-willed mother, Marilyn. Although King has been resorting to criminal means to earn a livelihood in the last few months, mostly by committing petty theft, Marylin is adamant that no money earned through illegal and immoral means should enter her house. While her eldest son, Marvin, and one of the daughters, Ambre, share the same moral ideals as her, what Marilyn or her family has no idea about is the fact that one of her sons, Kylian, is actually involved in a full-fledged drug smuggling business, despite being just 16. In fact, Kylian is actually Milord, the feared drug lord who has been making a name for himself on the streets of Martinique over the last year or so, but whose real identity is known only to his henchman, Fatso, and just a few others.

Marilyn raises all her children by herself, and naturally struggles to make ends meet financially, while also being worried that some of her multiple ex-husbands might come to hurt them, since they are convicted criminals. But before the children face any external danger, they have to go through the tragedy of losing their beloved mother, as Marilyn passes away in a road accident, leaving them orphaned. The elder siblings, Marvin, King, and Annabelle, worry about how to handle the responsibility of the entire family, which includes a few young children, who are eventually taken away by the authorities and sent to live with their cruel aunt. Desperate to help his family out, and also to establish himself as a successful businessman who is feared and respected by all, Kylian decides to expand his local drug smuggling business into an international affair.

Does Margot betray King?

King meets and befriends a woman named Margot after stalking her on Instagram, and his intention is to rope her into a plan. At the beginning of the series, King steals a stash of drugs belonging to a feared gangster known as SherKhan, and he wants to sell it in mainland France. But for such an audacious business idea, he needs a woman who would be willing to sneak the drugs into her body and fly them to Europe, and so he approaches Margot to basically be his drug mule. Margot turns him down, but does keep in touch with him, as she clearly wants to take advantage of him in some way. Eventually, King once again gets his hands on a large stash of drugs, this time from a wealthy and extremely influential businessman named Alex Croquet, and he brings it to Margot’s apartment, since there is nowhere else for him to hide it at. It is after this moment that Margot seems to be most determined to betray King and use the drugs to help her situation in life. She is revealed to be in debt, and therefore in urgent need of money, which means that if she secretly sells off the drugs stashed at her apartment, then Margot can not only clear her debt, but also possibly leave Martinique and start a new life somewhere else. After King ends up killing SherKhan and the latter’s gang members come searching for their enemy at Margot’s apartment, she is physically assaulted, simply because of her close friendship with King. Once again, at this point, it seems like Margot will sell King out and sell off his drugs. But quite the opposite happens, as Margot endures the assault without telling the gangsters anything about King, and constantly lies that the two of them have not been in touch for long.

What is even more surprising is that Margot does not even take away the drugs but hands them over to King when he comes searching for them. Her decision to do so suggests that Margot has either actually started to develop feelings for King, or that she considers King to be a more appropriate business partner than anyone else, and trusts him to pay her the cut he had promised. Luckily for King, the woman he had blindly put a lot of trust in does not betray him, which makes the twist at the end even more ironic and cruel.

How does Kylian’s father cause trouble for him?

Kylian’s biological father, Fabrice Sifflet, is a convicted criminal who is presently incarcerated at the Ducos prison in Martinique. It is very evident that Kylian has inherited his affinity towards a criminal life from his father, although their mindsets are almost polar opposite. While Kylian acknowledges that he is taking the criminal route towards building a stable life for himself and his siblings because he has no other option, Fabrice is someone who genuinely prefers taking the easy way out and skipping all the hard work. In this case, I am bound to question whether Kylian really has no other option than to be a drug smuggler, for he still attends school and could have therefore chosen a more legal means of earning. Perhaps he is demotivated by the life and career of Marvin, who has always been honest and hardworking, but currently works multiple menial jobs to make ends meet, and then also struggles to get a loan to start his own app.

Kylian still keeps in touch with his father, and often visits him in prison, but Fabrice brings nothing but trouble to his son’s life. Firstly, Fabrice is against Kylian’s plan of providing for all his siblings, as they are technically only half siblings to Kylian. Since Fabrice is one of the very few people who know of Kylian’s drug smuggling business from the very beginning, the man demands half of all earnings from this business, simply because of their blood relation, though he plays no role whatsoever in running the illegal trade. He then also sends his brother, Jocelyn, who is a junkie in total control of Fabrice, to harm the Lafleur family, so that he gets a majority of Kylian’s money.

Ultimately, at the end of Bandi, Fabrice gets in touch with a police officer and tells them about King Lafleur being the one to have murdered SherKhan. He wants to strike a deal with the police officer to get out of prison in exchange for this information, but nothing of this sort happens. Instead, the corrupt police officer takes the news to Alex Croquet, who then has Kylian picked up for a confrontation. Earlier, Croquet had let King and his two fellow goons leave his boat with his stash of drugs out of fear, as they falsely claimed that they had filmed him getting intimate with a member of the government. But now, he realizes that King can no longer hold an upper hand over him because the youngster himself is facing murder charges and having to abscond. Thus, Croquet chooses this moment as the ideal time to strike the Lafleurs, and he simply states that Kylian must pay him the entire amount for the drugs that had been stolen from his boat, along with 15% of the money that Kylian earns from his drug smuggling business. This entire trouble, which does not really have any further effect on the lives of the Lafleurs in Bandi season 1, could have been avoided had Kylian been able to convince the murderer-for-hire to kill his dad in prison. While patricide might have been an extreme solution, problems could have also been averted if he could have gotten rid of his good-for-nothing uncle, Jocelyn, as he had reported to Fabrice how Kylian and his friend had tortured him, which had made Fabrice vengeful against his son and his family.

How do Kylian and Marvin hatch a perfect plan of escape for their brother?

When King steals the stash of drugs from SherKhan at the beginning of the series, and then does the same with Alex Croquet later on, he is completely motivated by the thought of providing for his family. King wants to ensure that he can prove that he is financially equipped to bring his younger siblings back to their house, and save them from the cruel aunt and lecherous uncle that they are currently living with. Therefore, he is willing to go to any extent, which ultimately leads to further complications when SherKhan plans to kill him. The gangster plants a woman in King’s life, making her pose as a potential candidate to be King’s drug mule, just so he can get information about his target’s location through her. Finally, when SherKhan attempts to kill King at a nightclub, the latter shoots back and kills the gangster, which causes mayhem on the island of Martinique.

SherKhan’s gang is desperate to avenge their leader’s death, and it is evident to everyone that his long-standing feud with Kingsley Lafleur had gotten him killed. Thus, they get in touch with just about every criminal on the island to order hits on King and have him murdered. Jean-Claude, the dock worker who had been helping Kylian smuggle the drugs earlier, is also among the ones who order a hit on King, by sending Kylian’s gang members a bullet with the target’s name along with an official letterhead from the dock, to make it clear who was assigning them the mission. The only choice left for Kylian in this situation is to buy enough time to send King away from the island, for which he takes the help of Marvin. The two brothers quickly bring in Nathanael, the other sibling who had been estranged from the family for a very long time.

About six years back, Nathanael had been driving his car in an intoxicated state, when it met with an accident which killed one of his brothers, Dylan. As a result, Marylin had ousted him from the family, for which he is bitter to this day. Therefore, when his brothers come to seek help from him, Nathanael readily agrees, hoping to be a part of the Lafleur family once again. As Kylian’s trusted henchman, Fatso, has also now turned against him, along with the rest of his gang, he and his brothers take control of the van containing all the drugs that he had acquired to sell to the Spanish clients. Since Fatso was the one about to make the deal now, he and his gangmates agree to not harm King, and instead secure the drugs from Kylian. In the meantime, Kylian arranges for King to be taken away to Trinidad, where he will be safe from his enemies, as well as the French authorities. Finally, Kylian also ensures to punish the backstabbing Jean-Claude, by paying the assassin to kill him. Jean-Claude’s coworker and former co-founder, Didier Saint Rose, helps execute this revenge, both out of resentment against Jean-Claude and also in the hopes of taking over his position in the drug smuggling business.

Is Leo killed?

One of the younger Lafleur brothers, Leo, happens to be one of the most reckless and desperate ones to pursue a criminal life, influenced by King and Kylian. When Kylian is unable to hand over the drugs to his Spanish clients, who are also extremely dangerous drug smugglers, they demand that he gives them one of his younger siblings as collateral to keep until the deal is completed. Despite obviously not wanting to hand over anyone to the criminals, Kylian ultimately chooses Leo to be the collateral, simply because the boy is extremely smart and so will still have a chance of surviving if things go wrong. In the last episode, Kylian receives a video from an unknown number, in which someone is seen shooting Leo in the head. Just as he breaks down, Kylian receives a video call from the same number, and learns that Leo’s shooting had just been theatrics, and the boy is merely injured from the blank shot fired at his head. As Leo is confirmed to still be alive, it seems like the Spanish drug lord simply wanted to scare Kylian and threaten him into completing the deal as soon as possible. Another possibility might be that the drug lord had ordered her gunman, Diablo, to kill Leo, but the man didn’t carry out the order, at least for the time being, because he had taken a liking towards the boy.

Who gets King killed, and why?

Bandi seems to end on a happy note, as King joins all his siblings at a natural pool in the forest for one last swim before he has to go away to Trinidad. But there is a horrific twist in the last few minutes, when a young boy, accompanied by a man, is seen tracking King down as he rides his scooter towards the jetty, and the boy shoots him multiple times, killing him in the process. At first, it seems like one of King’s many enemies might have gotten him killed, but the scenes that follow strongly suggest otherwise. It is Kylian who looks extremely remorseful while traveling with his family in the car, and he even throws the family ring that he always wore out the window. Some time later, he is also seen breaking down in front of his mother’s grave, apologizing for some grave mistake, or difficult decision that he had taken. Based on these suggestions, it is clear that it is Kylian who ultimately has his brother, King, killed, after seemingly having realized that King was causing too much trouble for him and his business. Kylian had technically been given the choice of saving King or Leo, and he ultimately chooses the latter, as having King killed will once again open up the business opportunities for him and he can finally retrieve Leo from the Spanish gang. But this is also a very significant development, considering the fact that the very first murder that Kylian indirectly, or directly, commits, is that of his own brother. He clearly plans on keeping the matter a secret from the world, and especially his own family, which is seemingly why he sent two relatively unknown individuals to commit the murder. However, this plan will surely not work out, as there is one last twist at the very end, when a close-up of King’s body shows his fingers twitch, meaning that he is actually still alive, having miraculously survived the brutal attack.

Is there going to be a season 2?

As of now, there is no confirmation about the future of Bandi, but there is ample room for Netflix to come up with a second season that will continue the story of the Lafleur siblings. As King is shown to be alive in the end, it is only a matter of time before he is spotted by someone on the road and rushed to a hospital. Once King is back in action, he will surely go looking for those who had wanted to kill him, and he might suspect Kylian from the very beginning. After all, the last interaction between the two brothers had been full of animosity, since King had been absolutely furious at how Kylian had handed Leo over to the dangerous Spanish gang. Meanwhile, Alex Croquet will also plan something against the family, and now that the vile Fabrice Sifflet is out of prison, as seen in the last episode of season 1, the two might join hands in their mission to destroy the Lafleurs. Although SherKhan is dead, and his gang is mostly disbanded, it will not take long for other similar criminals to spring up in Martinique with the help of someone like Croquet, and so the Lafleur siblings will continue to have a tough time if and when Bandi returns with a season 2.
