'Beef' Season 2 Cast & Cameo Guide: Who Did You Miss In The Dark Comedy?
2 天前
The star-studded main cast of Beef season 2 already had us in a choke hold the second it was announced. But the shocking cameos that appear throughout the season certainly make for an even more entertaining watch. The 8-part series follows two interesting couples at different stages of their relationships – in every way, romantically, financially, and everything else. It’s a battle of egos that sees both couples start to spiral, ending in an explosive finish. Without the strength of the performances, the show would fall quite flat. Because really, everything depends on the chemistry between the actors. You probably already know the main cast, but you might need a little help with some of the really random and unexpected cameos in there. So without further ado, let’s get into this cast and character guide of Beef Season 2.
Carey Mulligan As LindsayLindsay is the interior designer at the Monte Vista Club. She is also the wife of Josh, who, on the surface, feels like the protagonist of the story, when it all starts out. However, really, all 4 leads are subject to the whims of fate. Lindsay, a dedicated dog mom, is also a vaguely maternal figure to Ashley at a later stage on the show, despite the initial enmity between the two couples. Lindsay is someone you want to root for despite her bad behaviour, for the most part. The last I saw of Carey Mulligan was in Promising Young Woman, which to me was a great movie, and nobody can deny a great performance. The British actress does a tremendous job playing American, so much so that I forgot she was British. She’s also in Pride & Prejudice, Drive, and The Great Gatsby.
Oscar Isaac As JoshJosh is your typical workingclass-to-rich arc tv main character. He has the energy of a show runner, but the mindset of a CEO, i.e. infinite growth forever. He plans to open his own BnB with his wife, Lindsay, but he’s got nowhere near enough cash to make that happen. That’s part of the reason he goes out of his way to buddy around with the MVPs at the Monte Vista club, where he’s the GM. His marriage with Lindsay is under stress because she thinks his priorities are misplaced, and when they have one of their grand fights at the house, which Ashley records, he ends up getting blackmailed, which one could say starts the titular Beef. Oscar Isaac came to prominence after his performance as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars franchise, but I’d say he’s most known for Dune, and Moon Knight. Also, he was in a mini-series called Scenes From A Marriage, which one could argue was kinda the same genre as this show, eh? He was also in Drive.
Cailee Spaeny As AshleyAshley might be my favourite character of the show. She’s vibrant, excited and eager to make a name for herself. A deadly combination if you ask me, an ambitious young poor woman, what more can you ask for, eh? Jk. Ashley is the reason this show works, if it weren’t for her, there would be conflict, but nothing interesting. But that’s what I’ll leave it at. Most notably known for her role in Priscilla, Cailee is certainly making the right choices for a young actress. Her first major role was in Pacific Rim Uprising, and you may also know her from Mare Of Easttown.
Charles Melton As AustinAustin is Ashley’s fiance, a kinda himbo, part-time employee, part-time wannabe fitness influencer. He’s Korean but feels disconnected from his heritage, and at one point, Ashley even mentions that she doesn’t feel like they’re a mixed-race couple. He’s very unambitious in comparison to Ashley, but he definitely adds an element of entertainment to the show, kinda like a tired and sad golden retriever. From the infamous teen-show Riverdale, Charles has really come a long way, having then done the Oscar nominated May December. He was also in A24’s Warfare.
Youn Yuh-Jung As Chairwoman ParkChairwoman Park is the light of this show, even though she’s technically the darkest character here. Park is the reason any of these people are interacting, suffering, or going through what they’re going through. I love it when we get a Korean female villain, because it somehow feels like there’s no discrimination in terms of what they do. You know this cute little face from her Oscar speech for Minari. She’s a veteran Korean actress, and has appeared in films like Woman Of Fire, all the way back in 1971. Apart from Minari, you may know her from Dog Days or The Wedding Banquet, and most famously, from the show Pachinko.
Song Kang-Ho As Dr. KimDr. Kim is a surprise entry to the show, or at least he was for me. I was not expecting Song Kang-Ho in this show is the point I’m trying to make here. Anyway, Dr. Kim is, in a way, the comic relief of this story, and he adds such an element of fun to the show, never missing a beat. Parasite alum Song Kang-Ho is a favorite of director Bong Joon-Ho, having done films like Thirst, Memories Of Murder, Snowpiercer, and, of course, The Host.
Seoyeon Jang As EuniceEunice is kinda like the black sheep of this show. I can’t exactly explain why, it’s not that she’s unique, and she doesn’t stand out as a character as such, it’s just her presence that feels out of place, you know? Maybe it’s the British accent with the Korean features amidst all the Americanized people that really does it. Seoyeon is kinda new in the acting space, she’s mostly known for Heartbeat, Good Partner, and Doctor Lawyer.
BM As WooshWoosh is simply there to be eye candy, or so you’d think, but he’s actually like the number 2 guy of the cartel, if you know what I mean. He’s also more important than you’d think, so I’d say you should pay attention to him. This is BM or Matthew’s debut role as an actor, but you probably know him from the K-pop co-ed group Kard.
William Fichtner As TroyTroy is the annoying White rich guy that Josh befriends for an “in.” But really, he doesn’t care about Josh at all. There’s a scene in the show where they’re on a flight, and it’s quite funny. Fichtner was recently in the Mayfair Witches spinoff called Talamasca: The Secret Order. You may know him from The Longest Yard, from 2005, the TV show Mom, Armageddon, or The Lone Ranger.
Mikaela Hoover As AvaAva is another person who’s in here for comic relief; she’s funny, she’s unrelatable, and she’s a perfect representation of an ignorant rich trophy wife. You’d almost call her a strawman, except people like her actually exist. You may know her from the latest Superman film, the live action One Piece, or The Suicide Squad.
Michael Phelps and Benny BlancoSome random faces popping in a show like this one is a given, but seeing Michael Phelps and Benny Blanco gambling together was honestly so hilarious, I kinda forgot to laugh. Josh was certainly having a good time then.
Sunisa LeeYou’d think the gymnast on the show would be a fake, but she’s a real life gold-medalist at the Olympics at the age of 23! Girl was glowing on the show and it was hilarious to see her interacting with Austin.
Hot ChipHot Chip is a synth-pop group that was popular in the 2000s, so like, when Oscar Isaac was in his prime (some would say, I think, that he’s there now). They appear as themselves on the show and Oscar’s Josh gets to play music with them.
