Samsung SmartThings now supports IKEA Matter devices, IKEA smart home hub no longer required

Samsung has announced expanded integration between its SmartThings platform and new smart home devices from IKEA, allowing users to connect and control IKEA’s latest Matter-enabled products more easily.
According to the Korean electronics giant, SmartThings now supports 25 IKEA smart home devices that use the Matter-over-Thread standard.
This includes smart bulbs, plugs, sensors and a scroll wheel remote.
No more IKEA hub required for SmartThings integrationPreviously, connecting IKEA devices to SmartThings required both an IKEA smart home hub and a SmartThings hub.
With this new update, compatible IKEA Matter devices can now connect directly to a SmartThings hub, removing the need for IKEA’s own hub.
These devices can also integrate with Samsung’s broader ecosystem, including Smart TVs, air conditioners and washing machines, as well as third-party devices supported by SmartThings.
Smart home features expand into monitoring and automationSamsung is positioning this integration beyond basic device control, with added use cases around home monitoring and automation.
For example, users can attach an IKEA door sensor to track activity at home via SmartThings Family Care, such as monitoring when elderly family members start their day.
Environmental sensors from IKEA including air quality, temperature and humidity sensors can also feed data into SmartThings. The platform then compares readings with recommended ranges for optimal sleep and provides a sleep environment report with actionable suggestions, such as lowering the temperature to 19–21°C to create an ideal bedroom environment.
Users can also set routines, such as activating an air conditioner’s dehumidification mode when rising humidity is detected, or send alerts if a water leak sensor detects moisture.
Scroll wheel remote provides fine-tune control for lightingA key highlighted device is IKEA’s scroll wheel remote, which enables more precise control of connected devices.
When paired with lighting, users can adjust brightness and colour temperature by rotating the wheel. Samsung says this provides a more intuitive way to fine-tune ambience. As of 20 April 2026, the remote supports lighting control, while blind control is expected to be supported later this year.
Built on Matter and Thread for cross-brand compatibilitySamsung says it is not only leading the Matter ecosystem through rapid adoption of new standards but it is also demonstrating strong technology leadership in the smart home market.
Samsung also highlighted that it is first to adopt Thread 1.4, a low-power short-range mesh networking technology which enables Thread networks across brands to operate as a single unified system. Not only this enhances user convenience but also to help drive wider adoption of smart home.
SmartThings Executive Vice President for AI Platform Center Jaeyeon Jung said, “By connecting IKEA devices to SmartThings, even first-time smart home users can enjoy a familiar and easy connectivity experience without financial burden.”
He added, “SmartThings will continue to expand its ecosystem through partnerships, enabling more consumers to enjoy seamless and convenient smart home experience within the SmartThings ecosystem regardless of brand or communication protocol.”
